several problems with VoidPup64-22.02+10

Post by bigpup »

Computer:
Homebuilt Desktop
UEFI bios with secure boot disabled, set to run in legacy mode, and fast boot disabled.
i7-9700 CPU
32GB RAM
GeForce RTX 2060 Nvidia graphics card

!. VoidPup would not boot.
Gave error messages about not finding needed files.
This was basically the same issue I had with Vanialla Dpup I reported in this topic:
https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=6785

I fixed the problem by doing the same thing.
Replaced the kernel with the one used in Fossapup64 9.5
With this kernel change.
VoidPup64-22.02+10 booted to a working desktop.

2. My USB WIFI adapter was not detected, so no WIFI
Most likely the needed driver or firmware was not there to use.
I did this just to see what would happen.
Took the fdrv.SFS from Fossapup64 9.5 and replaced the VoidPup fdrv.SFS with it.
Rebooted.
The WIFI adapter was detected and offered for use, when setting up WIFI connection.
The adapter is a NetGear, Inc. A6210

3. For package management, I suggest you consider butting this program in the VoidPup build.

OctoXBPS
This is a Qt based GUI front end to the XBPS package manager, derived from OctoPkg. It consists of a lxqt-sudo clone called octoxbps-sudo used to gain root privileges, a package browser application used to search, install, remove and update packages and a system tray icon notifier to notify the user about package changes.

I downloaded and installed it by using this command:

Code: Select all

xbps-install -S octoxbps

May need to do some tweaking to make it easier to run.
Have to start it by using:

Code: Select all

 run-as-spot octoxbps

During operation, when you try to do some selections, it pops up a enter password.
So will have to figure out how to get around this.
octoxbps is in KLV-Airdale.
Got to go see how they are running it there.

Anyway this is a very good program for package control.

Note:
Here is where the discussion started on getting octoxbps working in KLV-Airdale
https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 446#p44446
Read the next few pages for what they finally did.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Hi @bigpup,

the latest version is voidpup64_22.10 +10c
from here:
https://smokey01.com/peebee/downloads/test/

I assume you are booting from an external USB hard drive (UsbAttachedStorage).

Voidpup64+10c still comes with kernel 5.15.41 (CONFIG_USB_UAS=m, instead of CONFIG_USB_UAS=y), so you actually have the same boot problem as with van_dpup.

peace

This problem is fixed since https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE/pull/3394 (September 12) and we're already at 5.15.76, so this kernel is 35 minor releases behind.

Yes, your understanding of my boot problem is correct.

(CONFIG_USB_UAS=m, instead of CONFIG_USB_UAS=y), so you actually have the same boot problem as with van_dpup.

It is the same external USB HDD that was the issue with van-dpup.
