How to run 2 versions of Firefox? (Solved)
Hi--
I have downloaded firefox 45 ESR purely for nostalgic reasons as i adore the full themes which were available for this browser.I extracted the downloaded tarball into my /opt folder and simply moved the firefox-bin icon onto my desktop.
Is there any way possible i can run firefox 78 esr as well on my computer too.?
thanks.

Re: Running 2 versions of firefox.
Hi, xenial.
Try my self-contained, portable 45ESR. It's got a glibc-219 'tweak' - courtesy of watchdog - and, although it was built to work with older Puppies, it should fire up and run fine.
Start it from the enclosed 'ff' script, and it'll create its own, internal profile.

Re: Running 2 versions of firefox.
Hi mike and thank you for your response.
I do have firefox45 esr up and running with some of the great themes installed etc.I consider this era the true firefox period and i like to have this versions around for pure nostagia and the fantastic look of the old firefox.
What i have done is downloaded the firefox 78 esr tarball and i am not certain how i would go about running this in tandem with 45esr.
For some sites i do need a more up to date browser kicking about.

Re: Running 2 versions of firefox.
@xenial:-
In that case, d/l the FF78esr-portable. Follow the usual instructions; d/l, unzip, put it anywhere you want. Click to enter, click 'LAUNCH' to fire it up.
The beauty of the 'portable'-format as we now have them working is that you can run multiple versions side-by-side. You can even have them open at the same time.....I frequently do this with 3 or 4 of the Chromium-clone 'portables'. Profile/cache, etc, is completely self-contained, so no one of them will interfere with the operation of any other.
FF78esr-portable can be found here:-

Navigate through & help yourself to the one you want.

Re: Running 2 versions of firefox.
Mm. I assume here you're working with the extracted tarball direct from Mozilla?
If you're in /opt, it should simply need to be
Code: Select all
apulse /opt/firefox/firefox

Re: Running 2 versions of firefox.
No worries. Glad I could help..! (The more so, considering Firefox has never been my "go-to" browser.....although it makes a very "secondary", or back-up one.)
In my view, you can never have too many of the things....
Mike.
