Post by sonny »

Puppy is no longer to be "clicked" in top 100 and beyond (~262)

I've never took a scrap of notice of what Distrowatch says. Why on earth would I need to be "guided" in my choice of what to run by what other people prefer?

The site has never made a whole heap of sense to me. Operating systems all fulfill the same function; that of a platform from which to run software.

When I made the switch to Linux nearly 9 years ago, I did my own research. I don't need any assistance from "hit" lists. They're for the clueless....

Mike. ;)

Puppy Linux has miraculously returned to DW's ("DistroWhereabouts") Top 30!

@ MikeWalsh. I was one of the clueless. All I knew was that I was no longer satisfied with Windows and had an old computer. Linux was a total mystery. And as you know doing your own research means finding posts by reviewers who didn't understand Puppy then and understand it less now. Distrowatch at least put me on to several possible operating systems I could try out without having to destroy the flawed but workable Windows operating system.

I'd hazard the guess that today's potential refugees from Windows are likely to find Distrowatch and pay attention to what it reports others are doing: heard-instinct and such.

It's like training-wheels on bikes. A hindrance once you don't need them. But helpful when you're getting started.

If you think more people should know about Puppy, take advantage of it's flawed ranking method. Try to remember once and awhile to open your browser to https://distrowatch.com/search.php; then click on Puppy Linux.
