Head-to-head browser comparison on a 14 year old laptop

Post by dwepup »

Just an old machine running all 3 benchmark tests at https://browserbench.org/ and combining the results. It probably doesn't take into account a lightweight browser on a simple web page for feeling like the fastest in the bunch. Is there a browser that could beat that Chromium number on this same machine?

Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop (circa 2008-2009)
Pentium Dual T2390 @ 1.80GHz
Bionic Pup 32 8.0
4GB DDR2 6400
120GB SSD

Chromium 103.0.5060.134 - 58.04
Iron portable 89.0.4550.0 - 56.05
Firefox 103.0.1 - 49.39
Seamonkey 2.53.13 - 13.20
Palemoon 27.1.2 - 9.77
Light 48.0 - 5.83

*Tests where it did not load or crashed were given a 0.

i could ad this - done on a lenovo ideapad with amd ryzen 5 8G ram - runing https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=4138

vivaldi was my favorite for a while - for know im on brave https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic. ... 662#p59662 who imho
has the best overall performance at this point :-) i like the speeddial on Brave-Vivaldi-Opera and would probably go back to Vivaldi if
it would bench as good as Brave.

I was part of an evaluation over a decade ago: As soon as we published, it was obsoleted by new releases.

And our test cases changed also as the sites used constantly upgraded.

The report DID suggest, in its summary, to use whichever browser a user wanted unless mandated by the corporation they worked because company sites design with a particular browser in mind.

Just some info

with respect,

when that laptop was new...
not one in the world had
4 gb of ram memory,
120gb of ssd hardrive

''Just an old machine''

it's a wonderful hot rod.
fine for benchmarking.

if unchanged, in 25 years
it might be just an old machine.

cheers, mm
