EasyOS Dunfell-series version 4.3 released

Post by BarryK »

Yes, here it is, release notes:

https://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64 ... -notes.htm

Download English, French and German builds:

https://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64 ... /2022/4.3/

I have tested updating from 4.2.7, that went well, it was a 79MB "difference-file" download.

NLUUG has mirrored 4.3:

https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/eas ... /2022/4.3/

Currently, "update" is only downloading from ibiblio.org.

updating from https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/eas ... /2022/4.3/
went without a problem.

tks

update:

Wrong conclusion. I succeeded in updating yesterday evening using the update button.
And downloaded dev.sfx from https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/eas ... /2022/4.3/
Everything went ok.

Now I used another usb-stick and was unsuccessful.

Yes, you cannot update from any version prior to 4.2

It can be done, but a lot of messing around. For a start, the update script needs updating.
Then, 'vmlinuz', 'initrd' and 'easy.sfs' are no longer in the boot-partititon, they are in the working-partition.
There is no longer a BOOT_SPECS file inside initrd, you have to specify wkg_uuid and wkg_dir on the kernel commandline.
The image file is no longer compressed.

See the pink box here:

See the attached screen shoot of easyos 4.3 installed on my office HP Laptop with normal Hard Disk. Network connection made available through static IP connection. After initial some issues in Network Manager while setting manual IP, I have successfully configured static IP (wired) and got internet connection. Ethernet network connection shows Cross on applet. Connection message also shown right top corner instantly on every boot up.

I was able to print from canon network printer with photostat machine. Installed canon deb printer driver. Printer has static socket IP.

NB. I am yet to test easyos4.3 on my personal HP Laptop with nvme SSD.

Yes, I know that some people have that problem with the network applet having the cross through it, even though network is working. Have not been able to figure out why.

What result do you get when run this:

# getlocalip

Is this a frugal installation on your computer internal partition?

If so, it looks like you haven't provided the kernel "wkg_uuid" and "wkg_dir" parameters.
See here, shows example for Limine bootloader:

https://easyos.org/install/how-to-insta ... drive.html

Some grub examples here:

Having the same problem here trying to boot EasyOS as a Frugal install on an EXT4 partition and alongside my other Pupps.
'SFS Not found' is what I see,

I use Limine to boot all my other OS's but when running 'Limine',it doesn't show EasyOS in the list to be added??

I then added a menu entry manually to' Limine' and it did begin to boot EasyOS but then halted at 'SFS Not found'...

There has been another report of a problem with Ventoy.
Use dd to write the EasyOS image to its own usb-stick.

P.S. Keep in mind this should be a easy step/task for first time users who never had any experience with Puppy or dont know that much about it like my case :)
lucky me i talk with alot of puppys in irc who help,... :)

P.S. i manager to conver your img to vdi and lunch in a VM and it takes too much time to load in a VM compare to other puppy
Hope you get it what i mean and talk to you soon

Hi @BarryK how are you ? i finally manager to run your OS. :)
basically what I did was put your OS on an usb stick using Rufus.
But my goal was to use an iso and put it in an usb stick with several isos and then run when ever by selecting the OS i wanna to, but only now I realized that this doesn't work as it should because your OS decompress the contents of your iso to the pen and from there it starts the OS and the Tool Ventoy for win or linux will not alow you to wrtie on the some USB Stick. Still dose't makes no sence the error of saying that the easyos.sfs not found but ... lolol
But looks nice and in all my 3 Machines work well and fast since didn't have to load to much stuff since was all ready in usb stick. Still alot of work to be fix,.. but good luck and thanyou.

@Tahrbaby this was the way i manager to make it work.

I congratulate you on your success !

Having spent days trying to boot this and using various methods including installs to USB and SD devices I decided enough was enough !
Its quite clear EasyOS is fussy about hardware and lets face it,isn't the easiest OS to install, especially for beginners etc..
