I don't think English is boof's first language. He/she also has a tendency to post in "Text-speak" - which I personally hate! - and the posts always look as though they're typed in one hell of a rush. Consequently, spelling's not always that accurate, either....

We do try to help, of course....but he/she doesn't make it easy for us, and often seems frustrated that we can't understand them.

Try writing with good grammar in Spanish or Portuguese or Finnish or whatever Mike. Google translate gets better, but only good, and never perfect, for some more common languages. Rockedge runs this forum so, as per the old murga forum, predominant language is English (and of the Internet I suppose more generally), but imagine if it wasn't. Would your foreign language skills be particularly readable/correct from the point of view of native other language speakers? I don't think so! Mine wouldn't anyway - I've been lazy when it comes to any other language than English all my life, even though my two adult daughters are half German (the only German I know is about washing hands before eating, and saying 'go to bed' and other infant/baby talk stuff).

Yes, it is a challenge working out what people mean sometimes, but I'm just happy contributors are here, however tricky it can be to those of us who only speak/write/understand English. What I object to is one or two infamous forum posters who just post junk quote links and constant meaningless 'comments' about Puppy security and so on, without actually adding anything to this forum's meaningful discussions - I think you know who/what I mean... but I think the forum member I'm thinking off ended up being banned. Thank goodness. But that is a different matter entirely from those of us who are hopeless at languages other than our own - I should be pitied for my ignorance and it is worse that I continually promise myself to learn Spanish, or whatever language I suddenly wish I had some fluency in. I'm personally ultra-lazy in that sense (I haven't even learned Python, so can't even converse with snakes...).

I do however get the impression that boof relies on his own English abilities and doesn't instead compose clear posts in his native language and then use the likes of google translate prior to posting - maybe he'd have more success in getting good answers/solutions/replies if he recognized his English is difficult to work out? i.e use google translate more. Having said that I applaud an individuals efforts to use any foreign language without resorting to google translate (google translate being the lazy way for sure).

My tech puppy lexicon is small, I have trouble explaining myself. It's now too late to educate myself to competence, my mind can't hold new things well anymore. Fair enough. Completely understand, mate. So much modern tech is only designed/built with those of "average" proportions in mind....

It's surprising just how many of us DO have, um, "disabilities" of one sort or another.....in many cases, I suspect, simply due to the inexorable advance of time!

Ah, I've known about this one for quite some time, lass. I've had both 32- and 64-bit versions running from a remote directory across much of the kennels for 2 or 3 years, I guess.

Somebody was asking about CCTV apps over at the old Murga forum, quite a while before the pandemic took off. I was curious, so did a bit of research.....and Xeoma kept cropping up in all the various searches. I investigated further, and downloaded it.....there's quite a number of different builds to choose from, so you need to take your time & pick the right one!

I liked the fact it was just a single binary.......statically-compiled, I'm thinking, because it just seems to run in everything I've ever thrown it at, with the exception of 4-series Puppies. Anything from 5-series onwards, no problem. I've got quite a few old USB webcams sitting around, so I've rigged one up looking out of the front kitchen window; that way, I can see anyone coming up the drive to the outside door.

It can only handle up to 4 webcams at a time in the 'free' version (up to 200+ when you dub up for a monthly subscription), but unless you're wanting 'em watching things all over the place, that's enough for most homeowners. Quite handy!

I'm guessing the ability for additional 'modules' is probably present in the binary anyway; a subsciption will like as not provide a 'key' which you need to enter, which will simply 'unlock' the functionality already there.

A wee while back I packaged them up in 'portable' format, to keep the config stuff self-contained, and to provide the ability to add a menu entry, should one be wanted:-

Thx for pm Mike, my best cure would be a foldable portable keyboard for. My pbone. I fear their bulk and fragility tho. Even plugin would do, but not otg on this phone. Space bar far too close to home button, no room to move it away.
