Trash can and trash questions

Post by peppyy »

Is it alright to empty .local/Trash by deleting the items in there?

I never use the trash on the desktop, in fact I usually remove the icon, When I get rid of something I right click and delete. That being said, It appears that in several locations, I have folders called "Trash" which all seem to contain the same items.
One in my save file which I am guessing would be updated, and the other is in,

/root/.local/share/Trash

Most of the images appear to be old screenshots.
Several are their own folders and appear to be IE temporary internet files. I have gone to winehq from IE.

2 appear to be directory copies from a single exe, EQ3D, which I use called
equake3d and equake3d-1
These folders contain a copy of the folder in my-applications that I use for this program.

Just curious since I find all kinds of things with gdmap.

Puppy Linux. It just works!

The Puppy trash, which is the one on the desktop.
Is a Rox app.
The location of it's trash directory is /root/.trash/

Any other trash directories you find are most likely for other programs.
File manager other than Rox, etc.......

I never caused an issue deleting something from a directory named trash.
Other than no longer having the ability to recover what I deleted from that trash directory.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Thanks @bigpup I wonder which apps create that directory? Using TAS they all seem to wind up there.

I knew I had asked this question before. After looking into it I see that all the screenshots I take with Take A Shot do not end up in there, only the ones I edit with Xnview.

I read from superuser.com "the ~/.local/share – is where XDG-compliant programs store user data (e.g., fonts, mail messages) according to the XDG Base Directory specification."

This is why when I crop a photo with Xnview, it stays in the trash after I have deleted it from other folders with rox (With right click delete) It also appears that when I am browsing images in Xnview and delete them from within the application they wind up in the .local/share/trash folder.

I am around 300mb in that folder since I last deleted the files in April 2022.

Looks like wine, Krita, Openshot and a few others use the folder too. Just have to remember to check it once in a while.
