Is a VPN possible with xenial

Post by number77 »

Hello
I am running xenial64 on a dell latitude 6230 and I am having trouble streaming my music Radio streams because of my location, UK, and wondered if a VPN is a possibility and how to set it up.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Absolutely!! Xenial64 is one of the puppies that works perfectly right off the bat after booting with "pptp" vpn.

It's at: Menu->Network->Gpptp VPN .. Just enter the server, username, and pwd and click 'connect'. Once it connects you can close the window. It will know if you're still connected when you restart the app.

Read the readme at /etc/ppp/gpptp/Readme.odt for more info.

(protip: you can type 'myip' from a commandline to check your public IP address)

There's another solution too.

Read here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=284

The pet made by Oscar is very easy to use. Just follow the instruction and update vpnbook's password every few weeks will do.

Hope can help you. =)

Yes, you do. Either one, but you need to connect to a VPN server somewhere, then you will access the WWW via that server.
When you are using vpn as "anonymous vpn", the VPN app creates a "tunnel" to the VPN server that is encrypted then uses the VPN server's IP address as a gateway to the internet.

So, yes, get an account on an anonymous vpn site to proceed.

If you are using VPN to connect to a workplace, you can ignore the above info.

Members: There are many, many VPN clients. But a recent entry in Puppyland is this one by a recent member

Also, some browsers like Opera, have all that is needed for a FREE VPN without any need to install anything to your PUP other than the browser with the VPN client to server support built-in.

Hope this helps

Does Opera have a free VPN or do I still need to find one. I would like to try free before I go ahead. Any recommendations?

Google "using opera vpn" for your answer.
Enjoy

Edited: Mentioning FD811 feature was incorrect.
