Afternoon, kiddiwinks.
Following some recent discussion around DAWs on the Forum, it reminded me that I'd built a portable version of LMMS - the Linux Multimedia Studio - quite a long time ago......and, like a few others, I've been experimenting with them for some time, but never uploaded & shared.
Like many of my other portable builds, this is AppImage-based. The only peculiarity with launching this one is the need to add the
Code: Select all
--allowroot
.....'switch', which I don't think I've seen anywhere else. That aside, it fires-up as good as gold. I think it was paulh who found this one, over on the old Murga Forum, around 3½ years ago...
From what I understand, LMMS is considered to be a bit basic, but it gets the job done. There's support for VSTC plugins and the like, and a whole raft of available tweaks published by members of the LMMS community. PulseAudio & Jack are both supported, along with a lot of other stuff, which I'm not going into. I only play around with this; I don't take digital music-making seriously, so I'm not going to embarrass myself by mentioning stuff I don't know the first thing about!
I'll leave that to you 'experts'.....all right?
This is v1.2.1. Not the newest - that's v1.2.2 - but that one suffers from Qt issues and a tendency to segfault every time, so I gave up on it as a bad job.

You can find the download here:-

D/l; unzip; move the resulting portable anywhere you like, though preferably outside the 'save'. Click to enter, click 'LAUNCH' to fire it up. Scripts allow the addition/removal of a Menu entry if one should be required.
Have fun with it.
Mike.
