Experienced: [archive attached]

Newbie:

  • Extract archive applications folder to /tmp

  • Copy the .desktop files in /tmp/applications to /usr/share/applications, overwriting existing

  • run fixmenus

  • run jwm -restart

Note: Yes, this archive works in other pups, but requires more customization in them (e.g., some menu icons will be missing).

I don't get it . Whats different from what I already have in menues?

The Australian State Governments have all enacted laws to steal your assets on your death. All legal paperwork is binned and all assets seized on one disgruntled child's complaint.Move them well before you die or go into a home.

These menus are easier to read. The names of the applications are simpler and easier to understand.

Colors vs. Gcolor2
Audio Recorder/Editor vs. mhWaveEdit audio recorder/editor

etc.

There is design involved:

If the name of the app includes its function (mtPaint), then drop the function. If the name is a strong brand (Florence), you can drop the function. If you need the brand because, say, there are multiple apps with the same function (Florence again), you can include both or not. If the brand is esoteric (Peasy), just include the function. Do we need to know that a launcher is a wizard?

It's the art of being general without being too generic. I am in a default pup at the moment, and I installed Find'N'Run because the genius menus give me a headache if I haven't memorized exactly where an app lists.

User-friendly for newbies.

You might want to take a look at https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... -puppy-jwm, it fixes many ancient Puppy bugs. For example, it removes duplicate menu entries, removes extra separators and wraps menu entries of console applications with rxvt -e.
