Utility for unpacking and packing Chrome browser resources

Post by Grey »

In continuation of this topic (which itself continues another) :)
Okay. I compiled this little utility. And although I was told that the utility is old, and the algorithm has changed in the browser... but everything works. Then, with its help, I unpacked the browser resources (it is possible to pack them back). It will probably work with Chrome clones as well (if they attack :) ). Like this:

Code: Select all

./pak -u chrome_100_percent.pak /root/Documents/pak/100/
./pak -u chrome_200_percent.pak /root/Documents/pak/200/
./pak -u resources.pak /root/Documents/pak/resources

Well, there are a lot of icons there :) There are several with a logo.
Actually, the tool itself (compiled in Fossapup):

pak.tar.xz
(5.95 KiB) Downloaded 86 times

Fossapup OS, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 64 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, Sound Blaster Audigy Rx with amplifier + Yamaha speakers for loud sound, USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro V3 + headphones for quiet sound.

Hm. In-ter-esting...

I've often wondered what's inside those .pak files. Now I know. Thanks for this.

"100_percent" & "200_percent", mostly icons. "resources", mostly source codes, proprietary binaries of all flavours, etc, etc.....

No way of telling which of those icons is the one used on the taskbar, though.
