fstrim doesn't seem to be included in the version of util-linux that's installed by default in Bionic64 (util-linux_2.31.1)
I'm a bit wary of compiling and installing a version that does include it ( 2.34) because as I've found to my cost in the past, core Puppy scripts sometimes depend on very specific versions of other utilities.
~ Anyone know why there's no fstrim included?
~ Any ideas if a later version of util-linux will break Bionic in some way ?

Do this.
Use the Puppy Package Manager(PPM) to install what it finds for util-linux.
first run PPM -> Configure -> Data base update to make sure the repository info is updated.
Do a search for util-linux
It will tell you that it found util-linux_2.31.1 and it is already installed.
Install it anyway.
Just select it and install, selecting do it.
After doing this install of util-linux it should now have fstrim.
Puppy has a GUI program to run trim

This worked for my install of Bionicpup64 8.0
If you have not already done it.
Bionicpup64 8.0 has some updates to fix a few bugs and provide some newer versions of software.
Quickpet -> Info -> Bionicpup updates
Reboot updating the save
So now the new changes are being used.
Note:
Sometimes a Puppy developer will only put parts of software packages in the build.
This does make PPM show it already installed.
If you tell PPM to install it anyway.
That will usually get the complete software package installed.
If during install process, it errors with a message it is already installed.
Than it did actually have the complete software package installed.
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
