will buy new colour laser printer

Post by oui »

I print really very rarely somewhat.

I would print more, if my printer would not be only a B/W laser printer but a colour one.

But I have no place on my desk. It is a partner desk an we can't find an other place in the room (or in an other room at the same house level). The place is about 34 x 35 cm (the high is not critic) as it is a very old Brother-HL-2035.

I have NO experience with other printer and linux and will buy as cheap as possible.

It is the reason why I will ask if some puppyists have experience with very small and cheap colour laser printer and what is to take in consideration using them (in Puppy).

As it is directly on the desk, a USB wired solution is really enough. But I would like to continue to use it through the German internet IAD box FritzBox (FritzBox accept it or scanner as USB connected peripherie and each one connected in the box wired or not with the box can print directly on it also if this person is actually in the gardon or 2 levels over the office room with some connected phone etc.)

Thank you very much if you can help to find a secure solution.

I don't know if this helps but I have a Dell 1250c which I bought maybe 5 years ago. It's very compact and has worked well. We use it with Puppies in the house (different frugals).

CUPS doesn't have a driver for it by name, but it works fine using the Gutenprint Xerox Phaser 6000B driver.

Because our Comtrend DSL router has a USB port, and print server, it was easy to plug it into the router and share it on the Wifi LAN.

Maybe this will help you.
10 best printers for Linux
https://www.worldcuptech.com/best-printer-for-linux/

The best color laser printers for 2020
https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing ... -printers/

The big thing to look for.
Is there a Linux driver for the printer.
Must be one for these if they are 10 best for Linux.

The manufacturers web site should offer Linux drivers.
Most all do now, but I would check the model you think about getting.
For Puppy Linux.
deb packages of the driver will install with no problem.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

I've been using a Dell1760nw Color laser printer for about 5 years now. It is actually a rebranded Xerox Phaser6000 model. Driver installed easily to Linux Mint, and unit is fairly compact, plus wireless.

I am a bit contrary and cheap.

what is your color print load / month?

If it is not very great a monochrome laser printer is less expensive, fewer parts with the opportunity to fail.

If you need a particular color output send it to office max for example.

I use a Brother HL - 2360DW fine monochrome

than you very much for above answers.

last answer (ndujoe1): i print nothing because, even, monochrome (I have 2 piece of Brother-HL-2035 laser printer as I did name the driver in my message)

color LASER printer for 2 reasons:

I have old people in my family and hope to better our communication (an very old aunt refuses the use of computers...) by printing some JPEG's (not in photo quality: laser print is good for our goals: we have more "technical" phone conversations: family tree, equipment in ebay permitting to better the quality of age of old persons, land map about our bicycle activity, pages on the activity of our children, etc.)

and we would print out for us self those land maps about to prepare our bicycle activity or those of our children (we all have passion of biking! From 6 adult persons, only 1 has a car ans MUST have it to visit companies outside the town. We, the parent, drive 1100 km/month since over 10 years, they are 13.200 km / y with the bike! Our daughter and her man did drive from Augsburg (South-Germany, near Munich, end point of an old historic roman road until Sicily in August 2 y. ago with bikes! A very long route at the most warm month in year. She is instrumentist in Hamburg, the town where an other instrumentist woman (same instrument) did born. This other woman is world record(wo)man in bike without external energy in 24 h: ab. 1200 km in 24 h only with muscle power!!! Her college (same orchestra by different instrument) is world recordMAN (oder 1200 km in 24 h). Both play in the town, where our son did born (Munich).

for such purposes, documentations, land maps, etc., is a colour printer better. In the pas I did have an HP inkjet printer. but he was never ready to print because of very long time without to be use.
