pick a new reference date post 1970, say 00;00 1/1/2020.
use existing dmy calculation
all times to be referenced between old dating reference and new one to see which is valid.
provide ref date upgrade patch to all online users and reprogram all stand alone systems promptly.
issue update patches abt evey 50yrs from last reference point.

2038 bug was at kernel level plus other gcc component.

Linus and his team tried to mitigate unix bug on 32-bit system. But the best solution was move to 64-bit. Most computer cpu's dated 2008 onward was already in 64-bit.
