suit laptop, lots of drivers listed, but no way of knowing what supports wpa module compliance to guide purchase.

I took a look at what is supported by the kernel here. https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers before I ordered my replacement card.

Puppy Linux. It just works!
