Not enough memory on boot

Tested Fatdog64-812 on USB flash drive with DELL XPS 17 9700:
RAM - 16GB
Video - Intel Comet Lake UHD, GeForce GTX 1650Ti,
Sound - Intel Display Audio, Intel Smart SoundTechnology (Intel SST), NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible)(WDM),

1...boot with "Start Fatdog64" - "No enough memory...", does not boot! Will you help me to correct this issue, the laptop has 16GB memory?
2...boot with "Fatdog64 for slow BIOS and bootloaders"
...boot-OK, Video-OK, Internet-OK but NO Sound-detects, only HDMI outputs, sound on USB headphones-OK.

There was a problem with Grub4DOS that prevented booting on my AMD Athlon 3000G system with the large initrd but it booted OK with the nano initrd. The issue was fixed by an updated Grub4DOS specifically grldr. The updated file was included at the last minute on the fatdog ISO in early 2020 but there were older copies too.

It's possible that this issue affects other bootloaders too since I never had a problem with my older PCs.

It's possible that an older bootloader version was included on the 812 ISO, but I have never tried booting the ISO.

I can't advise you how to non-destructively "test" grub4dos installed in PBS; I simply can't remember, but I'm quite certain that you cannot just temporarily rename "grldr" with the new copy; as PBS has a pointer to the file and will fail to boot if you do so. If you have a throwaway flashdrive that you can use for testing, it will be a lot safer.

@Sharo, exactly how did prepare the USB flash drive to boot Fatdog64?
Regarding no speaker sound on your DELL, maybe it is just missing firmware. Try:

in a console window to see if it reports unable to load any firmware.
If firmware is not an issue, open Fatdog Control Panel > Sound > Fatdog64 Set Default Sound Card and see if you can change the default sound card to one that works with your speakers.

What is the matter using the GNU grub (you can start easily SliTaz.

as SliTaz is extremely tiny you need only a few minutes to install it on some very old USB key or CD and you can start with it live from one of those memories.

is SliTaz running, you can actualize the system, this will load the actual list of offered packages. and you will find grub at this depot. see for the manpage or follow the instructions...

note: an Puppy package for Grub exists also. but, of course, you have to start Puppy itself before you can use it ... but it is really rare to meet the situation, where it would not be possible to start Puppy from CD or USB key. Did you try that?

2 All usb flash sticks were made according descriptions on Fatdog64 web site,
but for all "Start Fatdog64" - "No enough memory..."
runs only with "Fatdog64 for slow BIOS and bootloaders"

3. lubuntu-21.10-desktop-amd64 and EndeavourOS_Atlantis_neo-21_5 on a USBstick from Rufus are detecting:
"Intel Display Audio, Intel Smart SoundTechnology (Intel SST), NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible)(WDM)" and
"Intel Comet Lake UHD, GeForce GTX 1650Ti",
and I have nice sound on DELL XPS 17 9700!

With endeavouros-2021.08.27-x86_64 and lubuntu-21.10-desktop-amd64 I have nice sound on DELL XPS 17 9700!
Wtth EndeavourOS_Atlantis_neo-21_5 and linuxmint-20.2-xfce-64bit, I have NO sound on DELL XPS 17 9700!

1. Sound problem: you need a newer kernel. Kernel 5.10.63 which is available in the http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/kernels/810/ will work for you. You can use either this one http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/kernel ... rd-5.10.63 (combined kernel+initrd) or the individual vmlinuz + kernel modules.sfs. 2. "Not enough memory problems ..." what's the BIOS type of your laptops? Is it legacy BIOS, or is it UEFI? Are you booting directly from the USB, or do you use existing bootloaders you have already installed in your system? How did you prepare the USB, did you use Rufus/Etcher or others ?

Test it in Fatdog 811 and 812

i share a 7z file since pics werent been display correct

Not enough memory to load specified image.

It might be the case that BIOS reports an incorrect amount of available memory to the kernel.

You should try to append the boot parameter mem=1952M or other values to the boot parameters (pressing TAB key in the first boot menu). This parameter tells the kernel how much memory your computer has, sometimes the BIOS does not provide the correct number, so you need to specify it.

In the kernel line of the boot menu after the Puppy reference add "mem=1950" without the quotes. It will use this to boot but will use the full RAM when booted as I understand it.
