Icewm .pet from Debian missing GLIBC_2.28 (Solved)

Post by Lassar »

Debian is actively working on icewm.

Made a pet out of the icewm Debian debs.

Doing lld got:

/usr/bin/icewm: /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by
linux-vdso.so.1

Also from the terminal typing icewm you get the same error.

Image

But symbolic link libc.so.6 points to libc-2.27.so

Image

This looks okay to me, but icewm is not work, so I must be blind!

Help!

That's probably because your Puppy doesn't have `GLIBC_2.28' version.
On which Puppy you tried ?
And from which Debian branch you downloaded the Debian debs ? (e.g. Buster, or ...)
The GLIBC version must match.

Tried it out on bionicpup64.

Don't recall which debian it was.

Here is the pet for you test out, and let me know
what I am doing wrong.

Icewm-2.9.0-1.pet

Also you will need kodi.zip to set up bionicpup64
for icewm.

Then go for Ubuntu Bionic deb + dependencies:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/icewm
Better install from PPM pehaps ?

Have managed to get hold of the source code for the bionic icewm.

The make file does not even mention svg's

Look at the source code of fossal icewm.

The config looks like it can do svg's, but the default is off for all images.

Someone would have to get hold of the fossal icewm source code and turn the
all the images on, and then compile it.

The debian icewm is actively being worked on. Up to date.

Look here for the source code:-
https://github.com/ice-wm
They have just released 2.9.1
I compiled 2.9.0 in Dpup Stretch a few days ago and it all looked fine, although that was just a test build without setting up any of the configs.
Best to compile from source rather than attempting to re-package .debs
It is not the Makefile which mentions SVG, it is mentioned in ./configure --help

Think I might try your Dpup Stretch.

Getting fed up with bionicpup64.

Used the puppy pet manager to install mysql server.

It said I was missing a library file.

Went to the location where the library file was supposed to be, and
it was right there.

Not a symbolic link to the file, but the library file itself was there.

This bionicpup64 is definitely buggy.

Well, I have never tried to use IceWM, but I just compiled 2.9.1 and it looks like this without the menu configured. You may know more if you are familiar with it.

Lassar,

If you now have a working pet.

Need to attach it to the first post.
change the first post to info, on what it is, and what it should work in.

If not, I will move this topic.

Additional Software is a place to post downloadable software, you know works in Puppy Linux.
Providing it for others to use.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o
