@rg66 I think there is a great value in the lack of need for customization, and X-series is most user-friendly out-of-the-box.

I believe it would have to be made 'official' to take off.

@rg66

I think it's time to update again the X-Slacko by rebuilding it from Slackware Current with latest Xorg and Glibc

I think someone qualified should keep the series alive in 64-bit with rg66's build guidelines, skipping Slackware altogether.

X-Slacko could be updated. At least glibc2.25 and openssl1.1.1. That would be a 'current' build. However, the dev's are working to get out the Slackware 15 edition. So its a toss up which direction to take. For longevity a 4.19 kernel seems important.

I had a look at the X-Slacko pages, the 4.4 build is only slightly behind AtomicPup internally. Openssl is 1.0.2L and wget is 1.19.1 (AtomicPup is 1.0.2p and 1.19.5, but thats as far as glibc2.15 can go). So yeah, an update would be nice.

In the meaantime will have a peek at X-Precise-nonPAE.

I use Battleshooter's Xenial XFCE:

I have a slight bias to XFCE over JWM but boot them 50/50. XFCE is visually rich and less labor-intensive to customize the desktop, especially how rg66 set up the X-series:

Menu Search - Control Panel - pFind - Lock Screen - Logout

In menu - inspired

I lose my desktop a lot in X-Tahr, usually but not always related to /root file changes, but it can often be recovered with the xfdesktop command -- minor inconvenience compared to its advantages.

Yesterday I just got the right-click Run in Terminal command to work in Thunar in Battleshooter's Xenial. The command executed "terminal" which did nothing instead of "xfce4-terminal".

The Roxfiler version works, but Battleshooter did a pretty good job of setting up right click menus so I want to make use of them.

I'm usually on my 32-bit machines, but the future is obviously 64. If you want broader use and compatibility, Upup is the way to go.

Unfortunately I've lost most of my Linux stuff, my build scripts being the most important. I did however find an unreleased X-slacko-4.5 ISO which I've just uploaded to smokey's site. Link in first post > X-slacko > iso. MD5 is fd153da129cdbda6362fb05e236809dc

If I remember correctly the changes were mostly visual, and maybe some updated scripts. I was trying to get closer to the freedesktop standards with full icon sets instead of the puppy desktop icons. Couldn't get sound on my Acer Extensa 2510 laptop but works fine on my Dell Vostro 270 desktop.

I've been playing with peebee's Scpup and XFCE ydrive so maybe an X-slacko64 might be on the horizon, although mistfire is already doing one so we'll see.

I'm in X-Tahr at the moment and that is sad to read.

Whisker
Screener
Xvkbd (installed and working while Tahr without)

I use the nodoka themes and the background peebea is putting in +D ydrv.

Mine is about 200mb total without Light.

You made probably the most user-friendly pup of all time.

If Slackware is rawer I can see why developers are drawn to it, but every version I boot has compatibility issues Upups do not.

Still a solid puplet, this is the reason I do not use X-Slacko.

@rg66
Go ahead on X-slacko64. QuickPup64 was completely different from X-Slacko that you made. Are you going to compile XFCE from source or using existing pre-compiled XFCE?
