If use X.Org instead, the terminal will not be transparent. You can try any terminal, but none of them will be transparent. The terminal under FossaDog can be transparent.

After changing a lot of settings and installing a lot of software, the terminal still cannot be transparent

Different transparent modification attempts are installed and configured. Even if it is transparent elsewhere, the terminal still cannot be transparent. Is it because the system has streamlined some X libraries?

Nope.

Try X.Org, but you'll need to run an X compositor like picom for transparency to work. Fossapup64 has it enabled by default, as far as I remember.

Fossapup64 can be transparent on the terminal, but Vanilla Dpup has been tried many times, but it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work to start picom after installing picom, but other windows are transparent, and the terminal still can’t define the transparent appearance... It’s not just this problem, like Foliate doesn’t. Law reading, etc. may also be caused by the same reason, and I want to solve this problem.

Make sure picom is running, not just installed.

When picom is running, other windows can be transparent, but the terminal itself is not transparent, which is part of the terminal. For example, the xfce4-terminal option can use a transparent background, but it does not work. Fossapup64 is possible. And not only this problem, it may also cause other problems. For example, if you can't read the book with Foliate, it is normal to use Foliate in fossapup.

If you are using Xorg, is it using the correct driver for your video card? (Nvidia, Radeon, Intel ....)
If Xorg can't initialize the driver it might drop back to the Vesa driver or the framebuffer driver (fb)
which may not support the alpha channel or hardware acceleration.

This should tell you if you have Xorg dri 3d acceleration.

glxinfo | grep 'direct rendering'

If it says no, Xorg may have dropped back to Vesa.

what does this show?
grep 'loading driver' /var/log/Xorg.0.log

@linuxunix Use the networking traay icon. If it's the 32-bit version, I think it's broken in 9.0.5.

Try this:

/etc/init.d/dbus start
/etc/init.d/connman start
connman-ui-gtk

Thank you, but it still doesn’t work, that is, connman-ui-gtk runs on the taskbar and it flashes and disappears. It’s been repeated several times, and it prompts when running on the terminal.
connman-ui
Then it automatically exits, and there is no flash in the taskbar. Is there any other version or alternative available?

The terminal transparency problem is still unresolved, and I don’t know what caused it. I tried several computers.

I still haven't looked at this issue, because there are more important issues to fix first. My spare time is limited, and that's when I work on Vanilla Dpup.

If you (or somebody else) wants to help me fix this - go ahead.

Is it with or without a savefile?
Does this happen when you boot with pfix=ram? (= no save file)
Does it crash after starting, or simply doesn't start?
What's the output of connman-ui-gtk?
Is it x86_64 or x86?
Can you share the output of ps aux?

Good afternoon, dimkr! Now using version 9.0.9. Perfect functioning on LIVAx2 (mini pc connected to TV), basically for browsing and streaming. Also great on my PC with all apps working. I compiled the 5.10.76-Dpup64 kernel, in honor of my new battle system. I am really very satisfied!

The release notes don't mention this, but every Vanilla Dpup comes with the latest bug and security fixes from Debian, plus the latest 5.10.x kernel. You don't have to build it yourself :)

In a previous post, I gave details about my Dpup64 installation. From the ISO, I just use puppy_vanilladpup_9.0.9.sfs, renamed to 01-filesystem_9.0.9.sfs. The kernel I use the latest version of "peebee" or do my own compilation. The intrd, I use the "Wiak". Some "Fredx181" apps like "Load Module" for additional .sfs files. But, your work, "puppy_vanilladpup_9.0.9.sfs" I don't change, I just rename it. This is the way I use all the systems I use (FatDog64, DebianDog Bullseye, Slacko64 8.2.1, Makulu Linux and Vanilla Dpup), all in frugal installations, without savefiles and "wiak" style overlayfs. No AUFS.

Vanilla Dpup64: The work as a whole is more important than the small setbacks we might face.
Its virtues: Very small, it only has what is necessary, leaving the user free to customize their own system. However, for novice users, it is ready to use.
In my opinion (if it's worth anything), it's currently the most important and well done project, within the "puppy linux" universe.
Because it makes things simple, and only simple things work.
Congratulations "dimkr", God keep you healthy and willing to continue your project for a long time... :thumbup2:

Now testing Vanilla Dpup x86_64 version 9.0.10 with devx loaded
Wanted to compile MPlayer release version 1.4 with GUI enabled
Needed to add package yasm-1.3.0 which I built from source
Configure script gave an error suggesting that zlib is missing, but it is installed.
Adding /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and also /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu directories to LD_LIBRARY_PATH in /etc/profile fixed this
Same in the 32 bit Vanilla Dpup but with the corresponding i386-linux-gnu directories in /lib and /usr/lib obviously
Not sure if this helps with anything, but just thought I would report it

@OscarTalks It should work without LD_LIBRARY_PATH, because /etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu.conf has both /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. It should work if you run ldconfig after loading devx.
