Blank PPM Entries

Post by JASpup »

Struggling to install 32 Chromium 90.

It has nine dependencies.

Two are listed as blank:

ppm-blanks-min.png
ppm-blanks-min.png (20.21 KiB) Viewed 145 times

Is this normal? Known causes?

[separately]

This is my run error:

Code: Select all

# cat: /etc/debian_version: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: error while loading shared libraries: libwebpmux.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I just installed them from the ppm. Checker reports no missing dependencies but this missing library.

We will guess what Puppy version you are using.

Use PPM and delete what you installed.

Get browsers from the Additional Software->Browsers and Internet section of this forum.
viewforum.php?f=90
Browsers here have been compiled and tweaked to properly work in Puppy Linux.

As you can see. PPM is not always a good place to get software.
Because it can get stuff from non-Puppy repositories, where stuff is compiled for another Linux OS.
The software, may or may not be properly compiled, for 100% no problem, running in Puppy.
A lot does work OK, but not all 100%.

The missing dependency libwebpmux.so.3, is because the Chromium package, was compiled for another Linux OS, that probably already has it.

Blank entries in the PPM->Uninstall is a minor bug, that shows sometimes.
What PPM version???

Welcome to Linux software!

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Good advice. I think the browser problem is specific to picky Chromium & hardware obsolescence. This machine's Internet is throttled but it might just be too old, hence I'm wasting my life sustaining old hardware.

I theoretically believe bandwidth is a conduit and only very primitive connectivity hardware should resist full speed, but the web gods have different ideas.

On the missing entries problem, perhaps it is caused by installing over ppm 2.5? You and 666 were in on that. The rollback works and is better, but I can't write off any glitches.

I need to account for which machine I'm using as well if the same os is going to have different compatibility based on hardware.

I will stop fighting for Chromium 90 at 9Mbps (treble that on netbook, treble that on 64 desktop).
