How to have double mouse click instead of single? (Solved)

Post by buszter »

Hi,
I'm new to puppy, also quite new to any linux but i understand basics already :)
It is quite challenging on single click is starting everything.
I'd like to change like in Ubuntu or Debian or M$ too program starts on double click and right click popup menu is opening.
Can i do this in Puppy ?
I am using fossapup64
I'm running puppy from pen-drive but saving everything what I do (I don't know how to call this option :) )

thanks for help

Hello and :welcome:

You can change the mouse clicking behaviour in ROX-Filer options.
To do so you can right-click any icon on the desktop, hover over menu entry ROX-Filer > and choose Options. By default options open at Filer windows (on the left pane). Under Window behaviour uncheck Single-click navigation.

You don't need to restart the system but you may have changed the wrong option. What HerrBert suggested will change the click behavior for items in a ROX-Filer window.

If you want to change the behavior when clicking on a desktop icon you need to go to ROX-Filer -> Options -> Pinboard (in left pane) -> in right pane uncheck Single-click to open -> press OK

right clicking on a desktop icon name should bring up a right click menu.
You need to go to ROX-Filer -> Options -> Pinboard (in left pane) -> in right pane uncheck Single-click to open -> press OK

Do a restart graphical server.

This will cause a single click to highlight a desktop icon.
Double click will open/run it.
So now you have to do 3 clicks.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Do a restart graphical server.

Why?

What part is not solved? What happened when you did what I asked you to do?
Did you notice the change? If you restarted Puppy right after the change and didn't use a savefile/folder your changes would have been lost - but that's not what I asked you to do.

Do a restart graphical server.

Why?

Well, I have found that it is something easy to do and it hurts nothing to do it.
It may or may not really be needed, but sometimes, how do you really know a setting change does or does not require it.
Also, people seem to never tell you exactly what else they may have done, to change settings, that affect the X server.
If nothing else in trying to help people.
Restart Graphical Server gets the X server back to a known condition.

Yes, a reboot of the Puppy OS will also restart the graphical server, along with everything else.
This reboot is sometimes something to do, just to also get back to a known normal working condition.
Plus a reboot hopefully updates the save file/folder, with the change in setting, you made.
So now that is the setting being used, you know it is in the save, and working.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

If you are not going to provide us any specific info on exactly what you have tried.
You do what?
You see what?
There is no way we can help you!!

If we suggest something.
We need specific feedback, you tried it and what happened.

This works in my install of Fossapup64 9.5, fully updated by Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates

ROX-Filer -> Options -> Pinboard (in left pane) -> in right pane uncheck Single-click to open -> press OK

This will cause a single click to highlight a desktop icon.
Double click will open/run it.
So now you have to do 3 clicks.

If you want more than this.
Code changing tweaking is probably needed.

Note:
For Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates
Requires a reboot, save update, so new changes are now being used.

Oh, it can hurt a lot! It immediately kills all running applications, no questions asked, no warning given, leaving you no chance to save unsaved documents. Please don't recommend this lightly.

It may or may not really be needed, but sometimes, how do you really know a setting change does or does not require it.

Very few do. Those which do will normally tell you that For all all others it should be common sense to first verify if the requested changes took effect before pulling the plug on all applications.

This is not a topic about changing settings in a running program.
How that specific program works.

Again, restart graphical server gets everything back to a known condition.
Including nothing running but a working desktop.

If you are trying to make core operational setup changes, to the basic operation of Puppy Linux, while you have programs running in the background and unsaved work.
You will get what you get.
Issues you may never understand what happened and how to fix.
How do you know one of those background running programs is not causing something to not work.
Yes, I have seen a running program making stuff not work.

Plus a reboot is needed, to get the setup change in the save, so it is now how Puppy works, the next time you boot up.
No not always required.
Depends on pupmode.
But it is a simple, always works way, to get settings in the save, and know for sure, they still work.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
