Language Pack for Brazilian Portuguese

Post by nogueira13 »

I am looking for a language package to convert my Puppy Linux installed in a Samsung Netbook N150 Plus to Portuguese Language but I am not succeed to do it. In the initial config page I set it all in Portuguese BR but the environment as desktop area and icons are all them in English. Times ago I already installed Puppy Linux in my Dell Laptop and I found a langpack Brazilian Portuguese "langpack_pt_BR-20140425" but now it got obsolete and didn't install anymore. I tried to use the console command "dpkg-reconfigure locales" to configure it to Brazilian Portuguese bur I didn't find this command in Puppy Linux. So I would like that some one could help me to convert my Puppy Linux completely to Brazilian Portuguese. I beg your pardon for my poor English but my native language is Portuguese. Thanks in advance.

In the "Puppy Setup" application you could set your main language.
You can do it also on the "Quick setup" that runs the first time you run a fresh install of Puppy.
It should say that a language pack is needed.
The lanuage pack should be a .pet file. It should be for Puppy specifically,
because Puppy needs translation of other words/sentences than e.g. debian or ubuntu.
You can find this language pack .pets in the noarch repo of Puppy:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... es-noarch/
Download your langpack and just click on it to install.

As you can see there is only 1 language pack .pet for Portuguese, it dates from 2013.
There haven't been much effort to translate Puppy from English into other languages in recent times.
So it remains to be seen how the result is like.

If you feel like it, you could use MoManager (under Utillity) to contribute to the translation into Portuguese. ;)

hello, follow the links...
I use Puppy in Portuguese from Portugal, but I'm from Brazil. The Portuguese version is partial, but it helps a lot, and is better than the one available in the indicated NOARCH repository... it works on FossaPup64 and Bionic64 and 32 bits. Greetings!

The first task I did was update FossaPup64 (Quickpet) and restart.
Upon entering again, it improves a lot and many words are in Portuguese.

The ideal would be if we from Brazil help with the translation.
