Bionicpup32 installation on 64 bit / UEFI laptop

Hi,

I am trying to install, via USB, Bionicpup32 on a 64 bit / UEFI machine. Everything goes well but it crashes just when the cursor appears (freeze!). My device is an Acer Spin 1 / intel Celeron N3350 / UEFI / 4 GB - RAM / eMMC 64 GB. Bionicpup64, Easyos Dunfell64 and Fossapup64 run great but I'm curious how Bionicpup32 would run on the machine. Is it possible or there is nothing to do?

AFAICT, all modern CPUs are equipped with both original "x86" 32-bit registers AND "x86_64" 64-bit registers.

Under 64-bit, the processor is running in what's known as "long mode". CPUs automatically switch registers depending on the code they encounter at power-on.....and are fully capable of flipping back-and-forth between the two, "on-the-fly", as & when needed.

"x86" is a family of instruction set architectures initially developed by Intel based on the Intel 8086 microprocessor and its 8088 variant......according to Wikipedia. However, it was AMD who developed the first commercially-viable set of 64-bit extensions to this architecture, later adopted by Intel and called "x86_64". The entire computer world, however, marks the AMD achievement by usually referring to it as "amd64".

Until the recent rise of "Ryzen", this was pretty much the last time that AMD were collectively able to thumb their nose at Intel.

Bionicpup32 should just run on a 64-bit processor. You, as the user, need do nothing at all except to install it, and enable a suitable boot-loader.....

I presume that you have Bionic32 on a USB stick and that successfully boots up on your computer and then you do a frugal install to the SSD and after that when you do a reboot it fails?

I managed to start the whole thing by starting without the X server. Subsequently, I changed the video driver and adjusted the resolution. No wifi also. I got around this problem by using a wifi dongle (Edimax). The touchpad does not work (no synaptic driver). I will look at it later.

Bionic32 and Puppies of that kernel vintage will probably have trouble with some of the more recent touchpads that need synaptic. I just use a mouse.

For the touchpad, I had the same thought as you.

You may need to install the synaptic drivers.
Puppy Package Manager(PPM) may have them for download and install.
Do search for synaptic.

synaptic was already installed. I had the same problems (wifi, touchpad) with the Puppy Slacko.
