HDMI TV-to-PC - audio use with PUPs

Post by Clarity »

I posted to a question raised here.

BUT, one thing that I have not found is whether the HDMI spec accommodate a microphone feed loop FROM the TV to the PC???

We all know of how to direct connect a mic (bluetooth/wired) to the PC. But my outreach is whether a TV which has a microphone could be a mic (thru the HDMI spec) back to the PC.

A use case if you're wondering: to "talk" a document (dictation) via the TV. Thus we could make the TV do all the audio + video work with the PC ONLY needing 2 wires; namely power and HDMI.

Anyone seen any reference(s) to HDMI signaling back to the sending unit?

At this point in time, the ability to have a mic's use at the TV for PC recording will not work, AFAIK.

A microphone is an audio signaling unit while HDMI is a digital format.

ATM, there does not seem to be way to create digital sound from a microphone to be passed back to the PC.

Further, ATM there is no way to use a webcam in the TV's fabric with your PC via the HDMI connection.

In my current finding, the connection to the TV is mainly as an output unit for audio-video; thus a one-way behavior from PC to TV.

On another note
I have found HDMI cabling which integrates USB signaling via the cable. The ONLY known application of that cable is a KVM switch which will take your HDMI TV and USB devices (keyboard, mouse, speakers, webcam) and combine all over this 'new' HDMI cable with a built-in USB breakout at the PC ends. This is unique and the KVM is the only use of this combined cable. To be clear going from the KVM to the PC, the cable at the KVM end is merely a HDMI end while at the other end, namely the PC end, it is both a HDMI end to the PC video card and a break-out USB end to a PC USB port . Clever KVM with CLEVER HDMI cabling!

An Excellent article showing the varied current methods of HDMI use with a laptop (or PC). It better explains what I was trying to get at.
Thanks @stemsee; muchly appreciate that useful information.
