FossaPup64 the only pup that plays video well in Asus Eee netbook

Post by Maybe »

Hello!

I have netbook Acer Aspire One 522 series with 3 Gb RAM, a weak AMD dual-core processor C-50, a Radeon video card. On this netbook I have installed several Pups: Xenial64, FossaPup64, Slako7.0_64, EasyPup, EasyOS. I ran two identical video files 480p and 320p on these puppies. Reproduces well and smoothly only in FossaPup64. In all other distributions, these video files are played with brakes. And in EasyOS and EasyPup it slows down very much.

Why is that? What can be changed to make the video play as smoothly on Slako, EasyOS and EasyPup as it does on FossaPup64?

hi @Maybe

fossapup64 has a compositor called 'picom' that stops screen tearing on most setups allowing smooth playback.
picom used to be called 'compton' and it may be available in the package manager of the other pups.

Also which amd cpu is in the netbook? to find out ....

Code: Select all

lscpu

or menu>>system>>pupsysinfo

Thank you very much! I tried your advice. I only found Compton.pet in the xenialpup repositories. Puppies Easy, Slako64_7.0 did not have Compton.pet (before searching, I updated the repository database for each puppy)

And so I installed compton in xenialpup_7.5, and unfortunately this did not change the situation with video playback, the playback of files was still recorded. The sound is normal and the video lags slowly.

Maybe there are other ways to fix the situation?

in xenialpup you could try adding

Code: Select all

vo=xv

to /root/.config/mpv/mpv.conf

on other pups you could try vlc to see if that's better
