Hot link doesn't work right (Solved)

Post by taersh »

Hi.

I have posted a link to my ArtStudioX64 topic (German forum) on the ArtStudioX64 page at archive.org.
When I'm clicking that link I don't get redirected to the topic. Instead I'm redirected to the main page of the forum.

What's the problem?

What's the problem?

Your link is inconsistent.

Your webpage displays the correct address:

Support (DE/EN):
https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=7381#p7381

However you linked it to https://puppylinux.rockedge.org/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=1046:

Code: Select all

<a href="https://puppylinux.rockedge.org/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=1046" rel="nofollow">https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=7381#p7381</a>

https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=1046 would have also been OK, but in any case the domain address
forum.puppylinux.com seems to be required. When you use puppylinux.rockedge.org the request is redirected, and this redirection doesn't seem to work as expected.

When I'm in the edit field, the link shows the same as in the description.

Your screenshot shows only the link description, not the link itself.
Link descriptions *may* be the same as the link address, but they don't have to be and in fact can be anything:

Yes, as Mochimoppel basically says, the displayed name of the link:

Code: Select all

https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=7381#p7381

is indeed the correct link address of where you want, but the actual (underlying) link address is different.

You can see that if you right click on it and choose 'Copy to Link address'. If you check that out you will find it is actually 'pointing to':

https://puppylinux.rockedge.org/viewtop ... 110&t=1046

which is not what you want...

How can this be. I just copied the link from the browser's address bar and pasted it into the edit field.
So, there must be something wrong but I didn't do anything wrong.
I can't do anything else than copy and paste the link.
How could it be identical in the edit field AND in the description, but the underlying link being different?

Is this what you copied and pasted?
If no.
This is what you need.

Just try using this for the link and see if it works.

Hi.

No, I copied from the browser's address bar after clicking the small icon of the opening post.
This copy's content was:

Code: Select all

https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=7381#p7381

Like it is shown in the screenshot above.

But when I'm hovering it with the mouse, Firefox (info pops up in the left-bottom corner) shows

Code: Select all

110&t=1046

instead of

Code: Select all

7381#p7381

Though, the Link in the description AND the Link in the edit field both showing

Code: Select all

7381#p7381

This is completely weird and none of the explanations above does explain anything for real.

I DID NOT DO ANYTHING RELATED TO UNDER-LAYING LINKS, I just did a copy AND paste!

(Solved) Forum Bug?

Post by taersh »

Ok,

I could solve this.

There was another option in the edit field where I could enter an address to be used for the link's text form.
Now Firefox shows the right link and clicking it directs me to the opening post now.

Seems to be complicated to include Links on archive.org's edit fields.
At least more complicated compared to the forum.
