Web browsers will not open in 32-bit Puppy

Install the puppy 32 bit full install to hard drive.Can download so having internet connection.But browser when click does not start.Downloaded 2 other browsers same thing when clicked will not start. Any suggestions do user need help!

Something does not sound right about the install of the operating system. Is this Bionic 32bit?

open a terminal and type the browser name or the path to the browser and the name like for example :

what is the result?
Are your browsers in the directory /opt ?

Ssarge, are you sure you downloaded browsers for a 32-bit operating system? 64-bit programs won't run in a 32-bit Puppy.

Yes bionic 32 bit.Check in the OPT file the only downloaded browser in that file is Pale moon. Types /opt/palemoon/Pokemon in terminal and it says illegal instruction. I don't know where the other 2 browsers I downloaded went to 1 was chromium the other was firefox.c
This is a old AMD Sempron socket7 2200 with 2 512 MB of RAM and a 200 gig hard. drive

I download them from within puppy under available browsers listed in the puppy menu. And I did type the command right palemoon not pokemon!

I would assume That 32 bit puppy would not have 64 bit of Listed for download in it's menu .

I think this is your problem.
You have Bionicpup32 8.0 installed as a full install.

The developer of Bionicpup32 8.0 likes to package programs as sfs packages.
menu->Internet->Web Browsers is getting SFS packages of browsers.
Those are designed to be able to load or unload, so they are not actually installed into the OS.
Bionicpup32 full install can not use SFS packages.
If Bionicpup32 8.0 was a frugal install.
SFS packages would work with no problem.

Frugal is just the name used for the install.
It is still the complete OS, but installed in a special way.
Really, some features of Puppy Linux only work in a frugal install.

For your full install of Bionicpup32 8.0.
You will need to use pet packages to actually install programs.

It is not the latest version, but after installing it.
Pale Moon->Help->Check for Updates can be used to get it to the latest.

Download them to a location you can find them.
The light browser in Bionicpup32 should be able to do that.

To install a pet package:
In Rox file manager.
navigate to the location you downloaded the pet package.
Left click on the pet package file.

Regardless of the installation type, modern browsers refuse to run on old Athlon/Sempron/Duron processors due to the missing SSE2 instruction on those chips.

Thanks all! Finally down loaded browser that gave me SSE2 cpu error think that is my problem!!

Did you try the Pale Moon browser that 01micko found?

It is suppose to work around this SSE2 issue.
Try it!

Before you install this version of Pale Moon.
First uninstall any Pale Moon you have installed, by using Puppy Package Manager(PPM)->Uninstall.

In case you're interested, I have two portable versions of this build available.

- A 'standard' version, that will run with more modern Puppies. I've just tested this one in radky's 32-bit Busterpup 8.0.....works without issue.

- Following watchdog's lead, a "Glibc-tweaked" version, with self-contained glibc directory - in this case, glibc 2.19 - which will run on very elderly Puppies on very old hardware (such as Lucid, or Racy/Saluki, none of which used a glibc newer than about 2.11/2.12/2.13). Palemoon now requires a minimum 2.15, I believe.....even this one.

Download, unzip, and place the portable directory anywhere you want. Click to open, click "Launch" to fire it up. It will create its profile within the main directory, and so long as you start it with the "LAUNCH" script, it will always use that profile.

You can even run this from a flash-drive, if you so desire.....for the ultimate in portability!
