Acer Spin 1 slows when CPU temperature reaches 64C

Post by BologneChe »

Hi,

Observation:
When the CPU temperature reaches 64 °C, I notice the system slowing down. Sometimes the whole thing freezes.
Easyos Dunfell 2.7.3 is booted by USB 3 (Kingston DT50 - 16 GB) and this one comes hot too.

Question:
Is this normal?

System:
Acer spin 1
eMMC - 64 GB
4 GB - RAM
Intel Celeron N3350

Thanks;

Is there a way you could measure and specify how much it slows down, or is this only a subjective observation? Perhaps a standard program that would measure the performance of your system?

I assume that is 64 C.

That does seem a little hot for that CPU, however it is suppose to handle up to 105 C

Normally it should be in the lower 30 C to high 40 C temps.

What are you doing when this happens?

Could check for any settings in the computers UEFI setup, that would control this CPU operations, based on temp limit reached setting.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

@bigpup ,

A convincing example;
I browse the internet quietly (2 - 3 tabs open) and listen to music. At the beginning, the navigation is smooth and the pages scroll without problems. When the temperature rises, everything is more hesitant and it sometimes goes up to a crash (frozen screen). Bionicpup64 and Bodhi 5.1 are installed on the laptop and the temperatures range between 30 and 45 ° C for the same use. I will be looking at the CPU and RAM usage when my next Easyos use and I will give a feedback.

Thank you for your attention;

I have not used it myself, but EasyOS has a tool to change the CPU frequency. Go to the menu:

System -> Wcpufreq CPU frequency scaling tool

Find out if a different setting helps.

It was written by old-forum member 'tazoc'. I have version 0.8.1, but I see that he got up to 1.1:

Is this with problem happening with seamonkey?
I have to kill and restart seamonkey on occasion for similar behavior.
I use /etc/hosts to block a lot of content, and when visiting some of the larger news media sites xload in tray rises and temps also

It does happen with Seamonkey. The problem is present with Firefox but less worse I would say

What version of Firefox?

Seamonkey 2.53.7.1

I will do a test with the version of Chromium which is available under Easyos Dunfell

Indeed, it seems to come from Seamonkey. It must actually kill and restart. Sometimes it happens after Seamonkey closing, it continues to run in the background.

Thank you!

In my case (EasyPuppy), SeaMonkey periodically seizes up completely. The way I prevent SeaMonkey from continuing to run in the background is, I restart the X server. This seems to kill every running program that requires the X server to run. When I restart SeaMonkey, it asks if I want to restore the previous session. I say yes and I'm back where I was before SeaMonkey seized up, except now SeaMonkey runs normally.

Thank you! @Flash
Usually either kill the process or restart the X server. The same phenomenon occurs in Firefox

One of the versions of Seamonkey had freezing issues, but I think you have the version that had fixed it, maybe.
Are you using this version of EasyOS?

Hi @bigpup
I am using version 2.53.7.1 - EasyOS 2.7.3. I also use this version under Tarhpup 64 without problem.

I believe that is an old gecko issue as it used to happen with old firefox versions too.Seamonkey is based on firefox 68 code so the issue may be gone with the latest seamonkey.

The latest version of Firefox gives me the same kind of problem under BionicPup64. For EasyOS, it goes pretty well with Firefox. I don't use Seamonkey anymore anyway (just like Palemoon).

@BologneChe
Speak of the devil and he shall arrive.
I have had to give up on palemoon as the latest versions resource usage is unacceptable and i have given it several chances.
Firefox memory usage is through the roof and i have tried many tips and tricks to reduce it and still no improvement.

For me and my own computer vivaldi has been the best performer which was surprising.

but different strokes for different folks. :)
