CleanRam pet by Argolance

Post by mikeslr »

Argolance: "Bonjour, CleanRAM is an application to clean RAM manually or automatically at startup and(or) during the session, to improve performance of the system." https://oldforum.puppylinux.com/viewtop ... 10c1b0e5d2

Available (with optional French, Spanish and Italian language pets) from here, https://oldforum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=109772

Examination reveals this to be no-arch. Should work in any 64 and 32 bit OSes. Was developed under ToOpPy, IIRC a precise-(32-bit) puppy remaster. Works under Bionicpup64.

The following reveals how much cache built up in /root in about an hour, [despite that I was mostly using a portable web-browser] and that running CleamRam increased the 'free RAM' by almost 10%. I would think that systems having less RAM the frequent use of CleanRAM would result in a significant increase in system-responsiveness.

The application can be run manually at any time. But you can also configure it to automatically run at chosen intervals.

Note: CleanRAM is 'no-arch': that is, because its executables are just bash-script it will function under both 32-and-64 bit Puppies. It works well under Xenialpup64 and Bionicpup64. I am uncertain about Fossapup64. It seems to work but I have some questions. Maybe the bash version under Fossapup is slightly different. Post your experience.

In addition, Puppy Tahr has this system tunable:

Code: Select all

 /proc/sys/vm/compact_memory

A search reveals that other linuxes have had issues with using this setting.
for me I invoke this setting prior to suspending to RAM, havent had any
problems.
