I have ten (10) desktops. Each one has its own wallpaper and icon setup.
They are switched by keyboard shortcuts and/or menu entry.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Hah!

"Deskbound keyboard jockey", possibly. "20-stone stone & blubbery".....not so much. (Though I wish I did have a six-pack like that!)

At almost 60 I weigh around 12 stone. But that's half-a-stone heavier than I've ever been before, and unfortunately I've reached the stage of life now where it no longer drops away during the summer the way it used to..... Grrr!!

(*sigh*)

Ne'm mind. At least the old grey matter's still pretty sharp...

Hi Clarity - is that your desktop or wallpaper?

I am a fan of reduced icons on the desktop but that is the most stripped I have seen!

Morning, Ian.

It's an easy enough effect to achieve, TBH. As long as you know where they are, you can hide every single icon you have.....by changing the existing images for an invisible one. And you've always got the right-click desktop menu, in any case.

Reduce everything down to four icons, say, put one in each corner, and make 'em invisible. Use the supplied PNG image below (it's just a PNG transparent background layer, without anything else.....but because transparency is part of the PNG image specs, it's seen & recognised as a proper image).

Don't worry about the image dimensions; ROX will auto-resize it down to 48x48 for the desktop.

Yes! I knew it...

I had a feeling it was either Precise or Racy as soon as I looked at it. They're the only two Pups I know of that used that red-on-grey combo for xload in the notification area...

Nah, I'm talking about "xload", the little process-thread indicator thingy over near the clock. The one that some noobs think is a CPU meter.....

Image

http://oldforum.puppylinux.com/puppy/vi ... e2e1a77a43

I've made mine somewhat wider (!).....green on black background.....and mine updates every 2 seconds. Standard settings are something like every 20 seconds.

It is a good way of getting an indication as to whether processes are starting to run riot, and the way mine is set up lets me see that rather more quickly.

I think the background of the application is theme dependent. I'm using a modern theme with that Precise desktop. Background is not grey but same colour as the taskbar... But I see you changed it, enlighten us.

Oh, just a simple edit in /root/jwmrc-tray.....down near the bottom. For instance:-

Original from DPup Stretch 7.5:-

Code: Select all

<Swallow name="xload" width="40">xload -nolabel -bg "#3f6fa9"</Swallow>
.....which becomes:-

Code: Select all

<Swallow name="xload" width="160">xload -nolabel -bg "#050303" -fg "#07F608" -hl "#050303" -update 1 &</Swallow>
-Bg & -fg are self-explanatory; -hl is the colour of the graph "lines" on the y-axis. 'Update' is set to every second...
