When I go to place text on an inkscape sheet it crashes as soon as I hit the keyboard. Ctrl-shift-T crashes the same way .
Anyone know why?

Is this Inkscape you installed or the Inkscapelite?
See if installing one or both of these helps:
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
