directory, file, launcher, and... Window?

on my fossapup64 (works with other pups), I can add/edit keyboard shortcuts in Rox.
1) add line "gtk-can-change-accels = 1" (without quotes) to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and reboot
2) open the rox and right click on rox window to bring up the menu
3) highlight the menu with mouse

you want to edit or add then
4) click the keyboard combination, in my case Ctrl+W and immediately it gets recorded.
5) similarly I modified Close Window to Alt-F4 and Terminal Here from ' to F4.
6) click Backspace key to delete the assigned key combo.

Now I can open up another copy of rox whenever rox is active by Ctrl-W
I like keyboard combo rather than moving the mouse pointers...

That is a handy feature.

I am more visual for the sake of memory.

What I was trying to do is change the Rox terminal emulator. Xfce4-terminal looks a lot better with traditional drop-down menus.

Rox options allow terminal choice, so I did it there. Sometimes uvrxt or whatever it's called pops up, but most of the time it's the new terminal now.

The other issue as hinted in the first post is that several other menus are customizable, why not Window?

I also liked the "drop-down" xfce-4 terminal. I can duplicate it with the native urxvt terminal as shown. Add the line "URxvt.geometry: 85x13+200+0" to (without quotes) .Xdefaults or .Xresources to simulate drop-down. I am not sure what you mean by the last sentence why not Window?...

I am more of a user. I don't write code.

I'll write a script that batch creates symlinks. That is my technical level.

If your graphic is urxvt, that looks as good as xfce. Normally urxvt looks like this:

The scroll bar on the left is nice.

Xfce looks like this:

No comparison. It needs to look good and operate well out-of-the-box.

If you look at the first post graphic, "Window" is a Rox menu option. Files, directories, and launchers all have menu customization options. Window does not.

hi @JASpup

in rox-filer options (right click on an icon>>rox-filer>>options>>menu) you can choose the terminal. usually it's set to defaultterminal so that it is the same as global default terminal set in menu>>setup>>defaults.

urxvt can be customised with menu>>utility>>urxvt terminal control

Hi @666philb,

Let me spin my wheels long enough, and some of these basics I do stumble upon eventually, though it's a heck of a lot easier when someone points you to them first.

I'm also customizing my urxvt, but for the menus and cut and past operations xfce4-terminal is still worthwhile. Peebee's Lx's come with a similar terminal.
