can't frugal install fossapup

Post by walt52 »

I have a new TC Acer 875, and, after MUCH fussing, I was able to get it to run a CD of fossa. That's fine, but I've tried to do a frugal install on exiting, and there's nothing there. As long as I don't turn it off, I'm OK, but when there's a power glitch, everything is gone. Just now I tried a backup to a thumb drive, but I can't find an mnt location to get it from, so can't find the iso:It boots but it doesn't exist. Is there another way to get to it?

If you run Puppy from a cd, "live" mode (that is, Puppy is not installed)
it will be running completely in ram, no drives will be mounted, not the hard drive, not the cd.

You can mount file systems if you want to, like a hard drive or usb flash drive or cd or dvd drive.
You can click a drive icon on the bottom of the desktop.
Or you can click the Mount icon.
You do not need to mount any drives to install Puppy.

To install Puppy all you need to do is to reboot or power off, from the menu.
Puppy will ask if you want to create a save file.
Tell it yes, create a save file. Answer all the questions.

Next time you boot from the cd, all your changes will have been saved.

It's a good idea to run it that way for a while. Later, you may want to install it so that you don't need the cd.
It won't run faster or better. It's just more convenient to not need the cd to start Puppy.

I've done that 3 times, and it seems to "save" on the thumb drive and the SD chip I have mounted, but not on the hard drive. When I boot from the CD, it doesn't read them.
Also, in the past, when I boot from a CD, it shows up on the bottom of the screen, or in the Rox filer. I tried putting the CD in my laptop running Tahr and it said either it was blank or that something was wrong with it.

The only icons I see , or Mounts, are the thumb drive and the SD card.

When I try to run FrugalPup, it asks if I want to install it on the Thumb drive, the SD chip or "loop 2" or "loop 3". I don't know from "loops".

If you have an SSD drive, Puppy might not be able to mount it.
I don't have any SSD drives, so I can't help much, if that's your problem.

You could probably use a save file on a usb flash drive (thumb drive.)

I boot Puppy from a usb flash drive. I have no save file, I use an adrv.sfs to remaster Puppy. The adrv.sfs file is like a save file, but it is read only.
