How to use intel WiMAX Kilmer Peak in Bionicpup64 8.0? [Solved]

Post by ardneh »

New to linux.

Bionicpup64 8.0 Live USB
Running on Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 laptop
Have tried all three Puppy stock install apps
for wifi connection.

Puppy tells me:
Intel(R) iwlwifi Pci: Intel Centrino AdvancedN WiMAX Kilmer Peak

A web search found this for Debian:
https://www.iodocs.com/install-driver-i ... n-stretch/
PCI: 8086:0087 Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 [Kilmer Peak]
PCI: 8086:0089 Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 [Kilmer Peak]

The 6250 led me to:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... rking.html
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250

iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz ---- For kernel 2.6.37+

Not sure if this will work, or how to install.

Re: wifi driver for intel

I think you already have the driver.
If you go to the Intel site and find the 6250 driver, download and click on it to extract it. You will see the instructions for the iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode which basically say paste it into /lib/hardware. However, when I look at my Bionic Puppy it is already there and I would expect the wifi card to work.

I normally use Puppy Network Wizard and that gives you the option of Loading a Module if for some reason it is not loaded or the wrong one loaded. Give that a try.

Have tried all three Puppy stock install apps
for wifi connection.
Is this saying no WLAN device is listed in any of the network connection programs?

I too suggest use the Network Wizard.
It may pop up a window to load the driver.

Some laptops have a physical switch or key combo, that can turn WiFi off/on.
Make sure yours is on.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

First off, thank you for your help with this.

The iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode file is
present in /lib/firmware.

The wifi on/off key is f8, but it doesn't seem to
make any difference.

While web-searching for the wifi on/off switch,
there was a post that gave the solution:

Shut down the computer.
Remove the battery.
Hold down the power switch for 30 seconds.

After that I could connect.

Thanks again.
