BionicPup64 8.0 is randomly unpredictable and unstable

Post by sonny »

I have been using BionicPup64 8.0 on and off for more than a year. I install, update, uninstall, reinstall pets, debs, appimages, etc etc.
Today, for some reason, I can no longer install pets and debs. Some can be installed successfully but can't be run.
Last night I installed and played two games for few minutes. Today they simply will not run. Chrome and Vivaldi that I used months ago and I uninstalled, can no longer be installed again (pets and debs). Firefox installation sometimes has no sound.
Installation and execution are kinda hit or miss on BP. Dunno if it's just me, myself, and my puppy

How is Bionicpup installed?
Full or frugal?
If frugal. Using save file or folder?

Most likely, one of the deb packages you installed, was not completely compatible and broke something.
Deb packages, can be used in Puppy Linux, but they are not specifically compiled for Puppy.
A lot of them, do work and cause no problem, but it really depends on what the deb package is.
Deb packages, compiled for Ubuntu bionic, have a good chance of working in Bionicpup, but they were compiled for Ubuntu, so not 100% all will.

If Bionicpup is a frugal install.
The easy fix is to replace the old save, with the good one, you made a copy of, as a backup of the save.

Trying to figure out exactly what is wrong, is a big hunting trip, down the rabbit hole!

Firefox browser is a constant problem, getting sound to work in it.
Every new version, seems to have new sound issues.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Thank you for your note, bigpup. It is very much appreciated!

These were my steps:

01. Flashed the iso to a 64GB USB stick using Rufus (UEFI/MBR)
02. Booted the PC with the stick
03. Created second partition with F2FS using GParted
04. Sent save file to the F2FS partition
05. Restarted the PC with the newly created save file
06. Installed pets, debs, appImages, etc and tested them
07. Updated, adding more pdas, etc
08. Uninstalled some
09. Added and reinstalled some
10. Failed to repeat some 06 - 09

Thanks again!
