Icons changed in Palemoon after installing Netsurf

Post by dasouth »

Wondering if anyone has experienced an issue where the Icons changed to same icons as Netsurf after installing Netsurf. The version of Netsurf that I'm using is 3.10-buster64 that was built for EasyPup. Forgot to mention the build of Palemoon is 29.1.1 but it has occurred in the earlier 29 series of Palemoon.

What is the Puppy you are running in which you have observed this?
I have never known it to happen and it should not, unless somehow the icons in the package are named so that they overwrite the palemoon icons.
Also, can you specify exactly which icons (or where) have been changed.
If it is the BarryK Netsurf package, there was an issue with missing icons in EasyOS/EasyPup but that was corrected by adding them to the distro, so the package should not give problems, but maybe there is something not quite right if installed in Puppy. Anyway, give us a bit more information and we will try to get it resolved.

Here's a bit more info. I'm currently running BullseyePup64 10.2.1-6. It is BarrK's Netsurf package and it effects the default icons (back, forward, reload, home and download).

The issue does not always reproduce, as I've done it three times now on fresh installs, other times you'll have no icons in Netsurf. and no changes in Palemoon's icons. Usually, on installing Netsurf, you'll get no icons, and I'll change them from large icons to large icons and text and add the home button to the button bar. If Netsurf displays it's icons, that's when the icons will appear in Palemoon, usually after a couple of reboots.

Here's a screenshot of the changed icons in Palemoon

Thanks for the additional information.
I am not familiar with the BullseyePup64 of which you speak. Must take a look at it when I get the chance. I think those control button icons are derived from the GTK theme icon set. I remember reporting to BarryK that some were missing in EasyOS which were needed by Netsurf. I know that icon theme packages can be rather big, so sometimes cut-down versions are used in Puppy to keep size small. Perhaps BarryK added them to his Netsurf package and they are affecting what you see in Palemoon. That shouldn't happen, but really you need a Netsurf which has been compiled in the Puppy you are using (and is fully compatible in terms of any files which are included). I have some Netsurf packages in http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks , but none as yet for the Puppy you are using so although I don't think they would change Palemoon icons they may not be matched up in terms of library versions and other things, so not really sure what to suggest. Try them if you wish. Otherwise look into compiling from source or maybe someone else will do that in BullseyePup64. If anything else comes to mind I will let you know.
