X stopping abt 24hr intervals

Post by boof »

hp 250 g4; fossapup64-9.5 frugal no-non pet software, libreoffice, ff, t'bird, kmag, florence only loaded.

just drops out. am using ff in a desktop to stream 24/7 from iview.abc.net.au/xxxx.
no timed process killers in /root/startup/ i can see. also, stream stops fairly often in live play, rarely in replay. something incompatable? browser/os specific site. how to fix pls, even wine and win-browser?? would need full instructions.

Where is Fossapup frugal install?
Internal drive, USB drive, CD/DVD?

In the computers bios setup.
No settings to control power, auto shutdown, or auto reboot?

Is this with the power cord hooked up and providing power or when only battery providing power?

Is Windows still installed on computer?
If yes.
Was it shutdown completely normal and not in sleep or hibernate?

Puppy Event Manager->Power tab
Is it set to zero (0)?

what is providing internet connection?
WIFI or wired Ethernet?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Does mpv work better than FF? For example, in a text terminal (console):

Code: Select all

mpv https://iview.abc.net.au/show/abc-live-stream/video/IV1512H001S00

How to Fully Shutdown Windows 10 Instead of Hibernating It.
https://www.top-password.com/blog/fully ... nating-it/

Windows 10, shutdown in hibernate, puts the computer in a condition, that does not give Puppy Linux, complete and total control, of the computer.
The affect depends on the computer and version of UEFI it is using.
Just do a complete, full shutdown, and that eliminates any possible side effects, of hibernation.

You only have control, by the hardware in your home, that is providing internet connection.
May want to ask the provider of your service, about this issue.
If they are providing any equipment you hook to.
could be some setting in it.
Using etho, I assume is by ethernet cable, connected directly to their equipment.

It could be a Firefox issue, maybe buffering or caching.
Or it could be problems with the internet stream.
Which is why I suggested trying mpv.

If mpv works well, it would suggest a problem with Firefox.
Firefox might be using more ram, it might be using more cpu power, it might be filling up your cache.
Firefox and mpv would probably be using different buffer configurations.

You need to install youtube-dl if you want to try playing the stream with mpv.

If the stream is interrupted every 24 hours when playing it using mpv,
it could be the internet lease. When you connect to the internet, your machine usually negotiates a lease. If it negotiates a 24 hour lease, it would need to (automatically) reconnect every 24 hours, Maybe that is what you are experiencing.

the stream is browser/OS specific, chrome/ff, win10/android/mac, latest only. not sure mpv compat. not linux compat either. awful service from national broadcaster. no tech support.
