Jwm corner actions

Post by zigbert »

I am working on this feature in Woof-CE, and wonder if you have suggestion of actions that would be reasonable to offer.
By default no corners are active, and there is atm only 4 actions in the list. You can of course edit your own action, but for most users, I think it would be convenient to offer some presets.

pNote - My personal reason for making this framework. The simplest notepad.
FindNrun - Works really great with this concept. It's not included in Slacko atm. Maybe @01micko will consider it...
TimeBar - The clock/calendar/etc found in /usr/local/jwm_config/time
pWidgets - Only available if installed

I plan to include corner actions as a module in pTheme... But first do some work and thinking of how we best use it.

Test the concept in Slacko 8.0.1 (alpha2). FossaPup does not include jwm_config/pTheme, so it won't work there.

WOW! This is great, I have longed for this.
However, I use fossapup for need of debian packages..
Is there/ would there be a way to add it to this jwm setup? Or add the needed parts to fossa?

In any case, the first things I would use if possible would be,
-Show desktop
-Windows list (or similar) cycle open windows perhaps.
-Could offer some handy shortcuts like, screenshot, terminal, htop
Just some thoughts.

Very cool to see action on this, Thanks

@zigbert :-

Just for the hell of it.....how about "Nixieclock"? It's a wee binary that simulates the appearance of the clocks from years ago that were built from "Nixie" tubes:-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixie_tube

Which look like this:-

(from the above article). The 'nixieclock' binary, when you click on it, looks like this:-

A right-click offers format options, and 'Quit'.

Someone offered these on the Forum last year some time, and I grabbed 'em. I've attached tarballs to this post in case anyone's interested.....some folks LIKE this kinda 'vintage tech'..! :D

Not exactly a serious function, I know.....but it's just an idea.

Mike. ;)

FossaPup uses the same jwm, but another setup (jwmDesk). This is a choice of look'n'feel, and I am sure Phil has a good reason for it. I am developing the jwm_config package in Woof-CE, and it is possible to grab from Github. But I doubt it will run without flaws in combination with existing setup in FossaPup. Slacko, Bionic32, ScPup, RasPup... all uses jwm_config

Both 'show desktop' and 'window list' are both jwm functions, and as the biggest paradox, such functions will not work as corner actions. It basically executes a command, and since jwm does not support its function via a parameter (Eg. jwm -showdesktop), it won't work. Screenshot, terminal... would work! I'll consider those. Remember that user are free to enter its own command. It can start every program, but I will only add preset for some desktop-oriented commands.

Wonderful, but far beyond the scope of preset commands.

Everyone can add whatever command they like, so Nixieclock will work for you :D

pNote is found at https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... sbin/pnote

But is not a standalone app as it is integrated with parts of woof-CE not found in all puppies. Slacko-8 is actually the only Puppy fully supporting pNote at current state.
