How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
however even know there is a driver for the wireless card it is not being detected, I don't know if it is a driver problem or if the card is bad, when I type lcpci I get some stuff but it mostly seems stuff is missing drivers
if I type dmesg I get the following
if anyone has any advice on what to try let me know thanks

Most Puppy versions have menu->System->Pup-Sysinfo program
You can find a lot of information in it.
Any of the info it provides, can be copied and pasted, into a post on this forum.
Anything shown in a terminal/console.
Highlight to copy.
Middle mouse button to paste.

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
What does work?????
Has the WIFI worked with another operating system?
Any bios setting that can enable or disable the WIFI or a physical switch?

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
puppy Linux was the only distro out of 8 I tried that would work on this computer, I am not sure if the wifi worked or not, it did have windows 7 pro on it but that was erased, nothing in the bios about wifi and as far as I can tell no wifi switch, I also have it on a dock and none of the USB ports on the dock work, but the single USB port on the computer itself works as does the sdcard reader and some times the touch screen works

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
In Pup-Sysinfo->Devices->PCI->SummaryOptionally if the Latitude ST unit is shipped from the factory without a LAN driver and the driver is installed manually, you will be prompted to turn on the WLAN. The following steps need to be performed to successfully install the WLAN card.
a)Connect a USB keyboard to the computer and restart the computer.
b)Press the F2 key at the Dell logo to “Enter Setup”.
c)Select F9 to load defaults.
d)Select F10 to Save settings and Exit.
WLAN will connect automatically after windows starts up.
This resets the hidden Wireless Radio Enable setting, and removes the Hardware Disable setting.
See if it gives any info about a wlan or wifi device.
If yes.
Post what it says.
I hope someone comes along, that has used Puppy, on this type computer.
I do not have one.
They will know more than I do or maybe can suggest a better Puppy version.
Puppy Linux has a bunch of different versions, because one version does not work on all possible computers.
May help to edit the subject of this topic and add tablet to what the computer is.

if I use the network wizard and let it auto probe it finds the ethernet port on the dock and loads the driver for it but it does not work with it

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
Were you given this computer or got it used?
There is a chance it has no WLAN (WIFI) card in it.
Want to take the back off and look inside?
The card should be mounted on the upper far right corner of the motherboard.
If there is one.
Maybe a label on it will tell us what make and model it is.

Forget the apt get stuff.
Puppy does not have apt get.

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
You probably need the firmware and driver module for it.
But can only guess what they are, without knowing make and model of the WIFI card.
Could try Xenialpup 7.5 or even Tahrpup 6.0.5 Puppy versions.
Maybe Atomicpup

it is a DW1535C and I found my old USB hub and so now I can use this old USB wireless card, is there anything I should do to try and install drivers etc?bigpup wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 1:36 am The problem with the WIFI is finding out what make and model the WIFI card is.

Check if any information is output in dmesg. In a terminal:
Code: Select all
dmesg | grep wifi

running that command I get the output for the USB wireless cardTerryH wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 2:09 am Doing a google search lead to it possibly being Atheros ARS263 (Atheros AR6003X-BC2B). There are a couple of folders in the fdrv for AR6003.

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
The Dell DW1535C wifi caed.
Has the Atheros AR6003X chip set.
This uses the ath6kl driver.
Uses the ath6k firmware.
Looking in Bionicpup32 8.0
It has the ath6kl driver and ath6k firmware, with specific AR6003 support files.
So if the wifi card is good and powered on.
It should be working.
You say you did the bios steps, that are suppose to make sure the card is turned on.
I am running out of ideas.

Try the dmesg with the USB wifi adapter not plugged in.Code: Select all
dmesg | grep wifi
Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
Could your run the following commands in terminal and see if you recognize a reference to your wifi card in the output? I can't tell if you are talking about a pci device or usb device so lets check both buses.
Code: Select all
lsusb
Code: Select all
lspci
As an example of what is needed to identify the device.
ID 07d1:3c04 D-Link System WUA-1340
After you do that we can proceed in a logical manner.

it has a mini pcie DW1535C wifi card that is not working in Linux, but I have a spare USB wireless card that does work but I cam trying to get the 1535 working
Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
Your information about a DW135C is pretty much useless without identifying the chipset, there were probably many different chipsets used in that card.ironsniper1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 5:09 pm lsusb shows the usb wireless and lspci does not have anything for the wireless, also to test to see if the wifi card even works I am going to reinstall windows 7 real quick and see if it works in there and then reinstall linux after

Since you can't provide what is needed I wish you well and good luck, maybe you will stumble into the answer.

Re: How to use wifi and touch screen in Dell Latitude ST? (BionicPup32)
that sounded a bit rude, every place I look online about this card every site has said it has the same atheros chipset so I don't know what to tell you, it works on windows 7 but windows 7 is a dog on this thing, now maybe the issue is because its a wireless and a Bluetooth card in one I don't knowperdido wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 5:40 pmYour information about a DW135C is pretty much useless without identifying the chipset, there were probably many different chipsets used in that card.ironsniper1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 5:09 pm lsusb shows the usb wireless and lspci does not have anything for the wireless, also to test to see if the wifi card even works I am going to reinstall windows 7 real quick and see if it works in there and then reinstall linux after
