Zoom Meetings in Fossapup64 (Solved)

Post by watchdog »

Is anyone using Zoom in fossapup64 with success? The package in quickpet from bionic64 is outdated and the one from zoom site does not work for me. Using Zoom from browsers is not a workable alternative.

@watchdog - this v5.4.6 .pet seems to work for me, but use at own risk:
5.4.6 NOW non-working
Ok in Fossapup64 - is missing libraries for ScPup64.

It does not work with my hardware. I'm able to use Zoom Meetings only in android devices and LineageOs 14.1 r4 on the pc.

@watchdog - that's a shame. In one install I had, I had to delete all apulse (I use a web browser than doesn't need it so no loss) & select my analogue sound card. Failing that, have you tried mikewalsh's Portable Zoom -

This Zoom.appimage seems to work in my install of Fossapup64 9.5
https://appimage.github.io/Zoom/

Download to any location.
In Rox file manager
Right click on the Zoom-5.4.57862.0110.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage
Select properties.
Give it exec permissions.

To run it left click on Zoom-5.4.57862.0110.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage file.
Note:
It will take a little time (5 to 10 seconds) to start and open to the join meeting window.

Have not fully tested it, so see how it works for you.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

It's a no go in Fossapup. The only success for me has been using Firefox: but the connection is bad. I'll try with Bionic64.

I have the same issue on Bionic64. I will try the recommended solutions and report back....
This pet: http://www.filepup.net/files/ee6c141b1612165473.html produces same issue on Bionic64. Seems to be related to puppy pin, makes all desktop icons disappear. Zoom takes a long time to load, with blank gray screens.
Will try second option and report back...

https://appimage.github.io/Zoom/ produces same isues...

I make an sfs for my own use out of the ArchLinux64 variant download from the zoom website.

The "make" process adds in some libs including a full version of pulseaudio.

The sfs runs successfully under LxPupSc64 on my desktop but strangely from the last issue of zoom it no longer runs under LxPupSc64 on my laptop, but it does run under FossaPup64 on my laptop.

For "intrusive" "specialized" apps such as zoom I make a dedicated frugal install just for running that app. I think trying to combine these apps into a single install is a recipe for trouble to be avoided.

This works in Bionic64. I'll switch to Bionic64 with my current hardware.

For those who don't mind an older version, my 5.1.4 Zoom .pet works in Fossapup64 & Bionicpup64 (not ScPup64 due to apulse & lib issues). Use at own risk. 5.1.4 NOW non-working

@ozsouth : your package and the other in the thread reported as working in Fossapup64 work also for me in a live session. There is something I install which breaks sound in Zoom in a complete install. @peebee : your suggestion results right. Using Zoom in a light dedicated install is the best way to solve the problem.

@watchdog :-

My Zoom-portable works nicely in most of the modern 64-bit Pups, now that I've got the 'bugs' worked out.

viewtopic.php?f=89&t=1983

The current version has a dedicated launcher for Bionic64, to get around the issue of it apparently not finding its own Qt5 libs. Mow9902 tracked down the appropriate 'fix' from the Qt developers forum:-

viewtopic.php?p=15231#p15231

Works fine now.

Mike. ;)
