Hi.
Currently I'm trying to use XFCE for my OS. Almost everything seems to be fine so far, except the drive icons on the desktop and in the left pane of Thunar.
How do I get those icons being visible in XFCE and Thunar?

32-bit or 64-bit?
You have to install gvfs and pup-volume-monitor.....
Builder of LxPups, SPups, UPup32s, VoidPups; LXDE, LXQt, Xfce addons; Chromium, Firefox etc. sfs; & Kernels
Currently 64bit only.
I found gvfs via package manager, but didn't find pup-volume-monitor.
Where to download?

Hi @taersh
check this repo, it is for fossapup64, maybe some of the packages will help you, there you find pup-volume-monitor
Fossapup64 Repo
And according to my little experience in XFCE, the desktop drive icons are activated like LXDE, by right clicking on the main screen and selecting desktop properties and there comes the option to show the drives on the screen
Cheers!!

Thanks @all
All related options are enabled, but no drive icons.
After installing GVFS I get the trash icon on the desktop, but no drive icons.
After installing PVM nothing changes except, Thunar won't start/open anymore.

You might need to reboot / restart-wm after installing p-v-m
You can check if p-v-m is running with:
pup-volume-monitor-admin --list-all
Run thunar in a terminal - any errors?

I'm having the same problem:

I happened to find your post. Did you figure it out?
My preliminary conclusions:
GVFS is not required for drive access. PVM is. PipzDex has his version that works for Xenial if you accept the caveats in my post.
The other solution is 32-bit Tahr, for working in 32-bit Tahr. It'd be interesting to learn if 64-bit is the same, but not important.
The reason 32-bit Tahr works differently: it's in the repository. The .pets we find disable Thunar. It doesn't work at all until you remove PVM.
After it works there still is an issue with icon visibility in the file manager.
No reboot/restart required.
Installing XFCE manually from the PPM is the same as using Thunar in JWM, pup-volume-monitor is required.
In rg66's X-series Thunar works normally.
