10.0.x updates

Post by P_erithacus »

Apologies if I've missed something, but there doesn't appear to have been an update for 10.0.x in over a month. I haven't paid extremely close attention previsouly (just updating when I thought of it) but I had been under the impression that builds were automatic and twice per month around the 2nd & 16th?

Anyhow, checking here the latest is still 10.0.70 from Jan 16.

Hello @P_erithacus

There are 3 different authors of BKWP64; namely

  1. @radky (the official version),

  2. @peebee (the test version), and

  3. @ozsouth (a customized newer kernel test version)

Which are you looking for?

@P_erithacus I will fix it soon, please be patient. This is unpaid volunteer work and not always my top priority.

Thanks for the info!

Also, no worries at all. I genuinely figured there was a >50% chance I'd misunderstood and someone would simply correct me or point me somewhere I'd failed to look. If builds broke and need work to sort out that's completely understandable, expected even. Indeed, I've got projects of my own that require attention—I'd best get back to them.

Before I do though, 30 seconds to express my appreciation for this project: I've kept a live-boot rescue OS in my wallet for system recovery for over a decade: Knoppix, DSL, re-mastered puppies, Kaisen have all gotten extended trials. Vanilla Dpup is the first one I've genuinely liked. The first one I could simply pull configs from my daily driver and have all my preferred tools working as desired on a completely portable system (all in about an hour). The setup is so fully-functional for me that I've even started using it to do actual productive work on random systems I'm working on, at friends houses on their PCs, even once at the library. Anyway, a great idea, well executed, and much appreciated.

Dimkr

I am following your comments about security fixes for puppy (fossa) in another thread, and am curious how often security fixes for bookworm are applied to vanilladpup 10.0.x ?

It;s easy enough to download the latest build from git hub and move savefolders between frugal installs, but the development changelog offers no indicators for how often updating might be prudent for a security concious user.

vanilla dpup 10.0.x is based on debian (12, stable) , the github actions that builds the ISOS are scheduled by @dimkr to be triggered on the 2nd and 16th of the month and the ISOs contains the latest updates up to the day of building , fetched directly from the debian stable branch/repository. It is always recommended to run the latest ISOs which contains the latest (security) updates; the "importance" of running the latest ISO depends on the severity of the bugs patched within the latest build, hence it is not possible to predict how "important" it is to run the latest one.

Sometimes dimkr manually action the build of the ISOs so you can have releases other than the 2nd and the 16h.

In my RSS feed reader I follow the releases

so I can download and run the latest build as soon as possible.

from what I can see that changelog only contains the changes of github commits (?) and/or is not kept up to date (?)

The changelog only mentions "in-house" stuff like save2flash, custom configuration and updates to applications that don't come from Debian packages.

Each build has all security fixes up to that point in time applied.

@williwaw you can check https://www.debian.org/security and as you scroll down the list you see dates and security patches related to the stable branch which are, if it is applicable, automatically build in the latest vanilla dpup ISO.
