[Solved] Chromium in container can not connect to the internet

Post by Rademes »

Good day to all!

This is my first post on this forum, so first, I want to say Big Thank You to Barry Kauler for Easy OS! I really like the speed, easiness and security this operating system offers. Also I want to make Easy OS as the main OS on my two notebooks.
But now, I have some problems with it unfortunately, and I hope, that the community will help me to solve them.
Also, please forgive me for my mistakes and/or my speech, because English language is not my native language (I live in Latvia).

Now to the first problem.
I have a Dell Latitude E5450 notebook: https://i.postimg.cc/6pdqT9LN/01-30-25-17-39-41.png
In this notebook I have installed EasyOS Scrathgap64 v6.5.6.
In this notebook I have wired and wireless internet. When I connect to the internet using my wireless network, everything is OK.
But when I connect to the interned using wired network (the system connects automatically after reboot), and launch Chromium in container, it simply tells me, that there is no Internet available: https://i.postimg.cc/52cjxHz3/01-30-25-17-37-56.png. That happens only when I launch Chromium in container for the first time. When I close the container and then relaunch, It finds the internet an I can browse websites. Also, when I launch Chromium without the container, everything works well.
Here is a video: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/g9pp9zmw ... 005zb&dl=0

My network information here:

Please help me to find the reason.

Also, I can not upload the attachments to the forum:  https://i.postimg.cc/rmBZH00z/01-30-25-18-11-37.png

I screw it up. I am sorry...
While trying to solve the problem, I deleted the www container with Chromium... :(

Now the question is: Is it possible to create a new container with Chromium using Easy Container Management application?
There is no Chromium in "Choose an application to run in the container".

Also, I remember, that there was a firefox entry in that list, but after I have installed Firefox using "Download latest Firefox" from main menu, this entry disappeared! Very strange...

No

Method i have tested:

in /mnt/wkg/containers copy the directory www from /usr/local/easy_containers/templates

In /mnt/wkg/containers/www create a directory named container

Then try the chromium container.

Caramel, I have tried your suggestion, but there still no option for chromium in Easy Container Management application.
Anyway, I decided to use Firefox without the container, an here are the reasons:
1. Firefox is my favorite web browser, and I have been using it since 2015,
2. In this tutorial BarryK wrote, that

Extra notes about Firefox security:
Even when running normally, on the main filesystem, it is running as user "firefox", so has the safety of being non-root. Also Firefox has its own sandbox. So this is one situation where running on the main filesystem might be almost as secure as running in a container.

So, I do not see the reason to run Firefox in the container.
3. I can adjust the application font style and size if the application is running on the main filesystem, but I can not do it if the application runs inside the container. I do not like the default DejaVu font. I like Liberation font family. It is very important for me to use the appropriate font style, size, and appearance.

Since, I will use Firefox, I will not try to recreate the Chromium container.

Update: I have read here that there may be issues with Internet connection, if the container is being used. Perhaps, that`s why I had the initial problem. This topic is solved for me.
