Backup & Save Naming Clarification

Post by geo_c »

@Governor

What you have been saying in other topics about the pupsave backup gui appears from a quick test use of mine in Bookworm 10.0.7 to be completely false. (perhaps you're using 10.0.8, but I doubt it's much different)

You have said that there is nothing refering to the naming system of save files, and that a backup cannot be booted into once saved. This is patently false. Of course when booting one needs to tell the grub bootloader where the save folders and files are located. This is why the the gui's default location is in the same folder that the pupsys files are located.

Here are the results of my quick test usage of the savefolder and pupsave backup routines from a pristine boot:

Read the progression carefully.

Notice the explanation of the naming scheme. Why would one assume that the backup save naming scheme and location would be "anything goes" if later wanting to boot into it?

And running pupsave-backup after booting into my first save:

And now booting into my newly made backup save which you can see is clearly listed in the boot choices:

I hope that's helpful.
Perhaps this should be made into a HOW TO section post.

Hopefully people will read the How-Tos! https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=13648
How does that old saying go, something like "Everytime we make something idiot proof, along comes an improved idiot"
or so! :lol:
