Printing in Bookwormpup (cannon driver deb packge will not work sudo command broken in BookwormPup64(solved)

Post by ledster »

Update
Bookworm 10.09 running great on my new lenovo - with one showstopper. Cups does not support my printer (Canon pixma ts5051).
I've looked on Canon's site & downloaded cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz and cnijfilter2-source-5.40-1.tar.gz - do not know which one to use or how to use it. the first one stalls saying"line 1500: sudo: command not found"
I need guidance please.

Sudo is broken in BookwormPup64 and has not been fixed, yet.

The install script in this package uses sudo in it's commands.

Give us a little time to find a deb package that does not need to be able to use sudo to install.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o

If this is the correct driver package for the printer. I assume Cannon says it is.

You can only tell us if this works.

In Rox file manager navigate to where you downloaded the file cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz

Right click on it and select PExtract

On the programs main window check create subdir

Then select Extract.

This will extract the contents of cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz into a directory(folder) named cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb in the same location as the original file package.

Left click on this directory(folder) and then left click on the cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb directory in it.

Left click on the packages directory to open it to show it's contents.

Left click on cnijfilter2_5.40-1_amd64.deb file you will find in it. (this is the 64bit drivers)

Select yes to install.

That will install what is in this deb package file.

Now try using main menu ->Setup->Cups print manager to setup the printer.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Thanks Bigpup, that worked. No sudo problems this time.
Set up the printer and printed a test page - absolutely fine.
One happy bunny here!
