At the end of 2024

Post by cobaka »

To: Mr @ozsouth, Mr @peebee and (of course) the ubiquitious Mr @bigpup

It's the end of 2024 (almost) and I'm writing to give a 'big thanks' to you guys for your help during the year.

My desktop (my main PC) is a Gigabyte mainboard with a BIOS date from 2011. (yes, yes, sad, I know ...)
That means it's 13 years old - but still running nicely.
On the desk beside my is my 'backup' PC - HP deskPro 600. Again, that's on older PC.
At times I use some older laptops (from around 2005). These run Puppy well enough, but I expect trouble soon with the browser.

Thanks to Puppy and The Forum I can run these PCs and get everything I need (almost).
My gripe: Most of the people (in the non-puppy world) seem incapable of reading a file format like *.odt or *.ods.
It's impossible (they say). Oh, well. I just re-save using *.docx and remind them that *.odt will be around in 100 years.

One delight from Puppy Linux is the ability to "mess around" with the OS on different PCs and (at times) install Puppy on PCs and laptops that I give away. Puppy allows me to give "stuff" away. Try that with MS. Bet you can't.
Puppy also boots quickly. Recently I went to the local library and booted one of their "public" desktops.
I booted - and waited and waited waited. Finally, success! But Puppy boots faster on my 23 year old faithful bitzer.

Well, you'll thank me if I don't write "the gospel according to Cobaka", but a big thanks for this thing called "Puppy".
Puppy really is remarkable.

Thanks for the big thanks!

However, there are many more people on this forum, that I thank for what they do to support Puppy Linux!

We all see the benefits of producing Puppy versions, software for it, testing, finding fixes, supporting it, helping others to use it, etc...................

Thanks to all!!!

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Well, @bigpup
Thanking everyone is a big problem. I might thank @mikewalsh, he's been quite helpful.
Ditto for @mikeslr, I use the method he posted on this forum for installation. I guess we humans like things that work and Mike's procedure: "manual installation using the ROX file manager" works like a dream.
I tried other Puppies too - but in the end I need to focus on just one or two names.

I get a lot of help from the forum - thanks to @rockedge
In the end I decided to "shout out" to the fellows who configured the Puppy systems I use the most.
Go Fossa! Go uPup32! Great Puppy Systems!
