BE FOREWARNED!!! I read the article at Forbes from the link, and my ad blocker blocked OVER 1000 ADS on just that one article!
Just wanted to give folks a heads up!

Hm. I got 23.....the new Mv3 build of AdGuard seems to be doing its job quite well. This is in Opera. Interesting that the same point was raised in the comments, by the very first respondent! Who essentially said there were so MANY ads, constantly popping-up and being moved around the page to keep them "in your face" all the time, that the article was all but unreadable...
Huh.
Sounds like it's gonna be back to "sneaky" tracking from here on in. Interesting timing, too, with the US's DOJ action against Google being ongoing; seems they're trying to "muddy the waters", and generally spread the brown stuff around so that everyone gets a portion!
We shall see what we shall see.
Mike.
My guess on why my ad blocker blocked so many is I've got it tuned to be very sensitive, especially for media elements. I've found if I block
elements over say 50 to 75 kb my data usage drops dramatically, as my connection is via hotspot and is metered, left unblocked I'll run through
the limit before the end of the billing cycle. (uBlock Origin, use the one for Edge in Win11, and AstroSkippers modded in Puppy in Palemoon)

This question probably needs a new topic, but in relation to google's tracking and moreso the abundance of ads we're getting, is there a good list for ad prevention via using the hosts file?
I used to use it years ago, but have been using Ublock or AdBlock, and haven't utilised the hosts file for a long time.
guugle will not be tracking everything starting 8 weeks from now. guugle is and has been tracking everything they can since long long time ago.
Web sites nowadays are made with technologies that make pages dynamic (eg AJAX) , in the background they do *things* so if you leave a webpage opened it can be normal for your ad blocker shows many elements blocked, and counting up at intervals.

@p310don ublock origin (which is the ad-blocker I recommend you using, even better if in pair with a firefox web browser) has already filters based on hosts files. No need to amend your operating system's one , unless you want to block undesired hosts to be resolved at system level and not just at web browser's level.
I offer an idea for each person following this thread: Its NOT limited to Google as the title guides us!
Yes there are many of us who have been conditioned to "hate" the industry GIANTS.
BUT, the Surveillance States of the big 7 governments have influenced the internet such that they can/do monitor citizen activities. This is done for GDP reasons.
Security to protect you, of course, is tantamount to much of this behavior all of which is aligned to attract users with useful features...whether we agree to this or not.
The Internet is NOT free. And it is not designed to be FREE. Its a marketplace.
WE are its product for the services it has where we gain either a level of enjoyment, engagement, or productivity.
I am not asking/seeking concurrence to this post. Its merely information that may be useful/helpful to some.
And it is not designed to be FREE
There was a time it was
but only after the military built the original version

From the prior post's picture: What he does will not be favorable to you OR ANYONE. Google, MS, Apple, nvidia, Intel, LG, Samsung, AMD, storage manufacturers, comm equipment will all have to do as instructed beginning Jan 20. The future products available will be from his "grand vision" or "grand wisdom", depending which spectrum you envision the future.
You have NO idea how the whole world is about to change. ... AND THEY KNOW IT.
Kiss the ring!!! or ...
Doom and glum before anything has happened.
It is way overdo for Google to loose some of it's power over the Internet.

If you are US citizen, YOU are now going to watched via Gov't oversight bypassing Big Tech concerns...as of today. (see the musk.jpg)
Technological controls are now subordinate to where controls are moved and expanded.
Interesting thread title but hasn't Google been tracking and collecting user data for years and years.
The Federal Government has gotten involved leastwise in the USA with what Google has created and how they have monopolized the WWW not to mention the pending trials and fines imposed on Google.
Don't mean to be political if this is a forum violation please remove my post.

Musk is a fraud as much as he is going to grab lots and lots of power and with zero transparency to tilt the game in his favor. So much conflict of interest that it's overwhelming to think about the extent of what can happen. Where in the Constitution is all of this spelled out?
Musk is an autistic South African and does not represent me as an American. He does not care about my best interests at all despite the lies and distortion of truth to convince me that he does. How did he "immigrate" legally anyway? Because of $$?
All those supposed savings is also not what he portrays and none of those supposed savings will ever show up to be of any advantage for me or my neighbors.
You can bet Musk's companies will enjoy many federal contracts in the many billions of dollars and we will still be combating inflation and treading the health care waters financially. Never really having a seat at the table. Being told what's good for you...trust us.........we know best....our money proves it.
Why on Earth would I trust the billionaire, richest man on the planet, for ANYTHING? To Musk I am a commodity and Musk sees the world as a monetary transaction.
it isnt.
Authority was given to congress. they delegated it away.
They could take it back.

Just want to share a perspective: It is easy for you to step back and see. With this new expansion of Gov't oversight in the US, the Gov't no longer will ask companies or corporations to "see" what they request...INSTEAD, they will now go after it themselves with NO need to ask anymore. Thus the Govt is NOW elevated above corporations on the internet. Thus all info is going thru them even before the corps actually see it.
They will no longer go after corporation for use of your data for business purposes. In a very short period of weeks, we entered a "bRAVE NEW wORLD"
Your current views about corporations are no longer relevant. YOU (and I) are now watched! And since laws dont apply to the new Govt, then they do whatever with your data as THEY see necessary.
Can you see it. Its not Apple/Micorsoft/Oracle/Google for business purposes anymore. The technology use has significantly changed.
Enjoy
I wish I could know what is going to happen before it happens.
What if.
It could happen.
This is what they will do.
This is what they could do.
etc......
When it actually happens is when you can talk about it.
The video I posted, is exactly about what was found, to actually happen!
Not it could happen.
It may happen.
This is what they could do.
It is what Google is actually doing.

If Google can do it.
Why should we even try to stop them?
Then why are we trying to stop TikTok from doing it?

The US has thrust all of the internet into their version of worldwide controls. It is not corporations anymore. .... Google or otherwise. Much of Orwell is now apparent in 'real time'.
Edit: "Huxley"...not Orwell.

these corps are not the biggest players on wall street because they have been making the government "ask"

the only thing "new" is your perspective since a different president got elected.
Clarity wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 10:46 pmThe US has thrust all of the internet into their version of worldwide controls. It is not corporations anymore. .... Google or otherwise. Much of Orwell is now apparent in 'real time'.
These corporations exist because of DARPA, In-Q-Tel, etc, and they've been one in the same for a long time. They are only a corporate face to the security state. It's no coincidence that the really sharp rise of these corporations coincided with the Patriot Act.
What you see now was a foregone conclusion to all but the most optimistic of observers. And it doesn't matter who the president is, or what party they belong to, because it's not in their control. It's the other way around. Because of the totallity of the surveillance no politician can go after it. They can be taken down all too easily.
Whoever is in office is there because these "corporations" want them there.
That being said, no amount of central control exposed will be enough for those who take the attitude (like my cousin for instance) that the convenience and entertainment factor is worth the trade-off. His particular faustian bargain is VR.
Why not just put a Musk implant in your head?

That's the point. A new form of Gov't now exist. And its direction has emerged. The signs are apparent, whether anyone likes it or not.
This will not be turned around as the new collections in a new unregulated "Department of Government" has major implications to everyone in US and beyond with the new internet changes.
The Internet is the dominate pathway for communications for peoples of the world. In my opinion, it dwarfs traditional voice calls.
This is NOT politics!!! We are seeing an implementation moving forward with no oversight.
BTW: This thread was opened before the new group were given the controls of the operational aspect of US. Now, in control, the policing apparatus is gone at the same time as Internet operations taken over, quietly. This time I think it appropriate to repeat; "Brave New World" as a reading refresher.
BTW2: I ask (as this may help some see): Who 'owns' the Internet?
