How to change screensaver time in Bookworm12? (SOLVED)

Post by soniabu »

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well. I'm fine.
I couldn't find how to change the screensaver time on my DebianDog- Boockworm # 12 system.
Can anyone tell me - please - where I can intervene?
I checked with Synaptic that I don't have XScreenSaver installed or
gnome-screensaver
mate-screensaver
cinnamon-screensaver
light-locker

Thank you,
sonia

Hello, Sonia,
I guess you mean the screen blanking (default every 10 minutes (600 sec)), some examples:
xset s 1800 1800 # half an hour interval
xset s 3600 3600 # an hour interval
xset s off -dpms # disable screen blanking
To run at boot/login, edit the file ~/.xsession and put it before the last line, e.g. :

Code: Select all

xset s 1800 1800 # half hour interval
exec $SESSION_MANAGER

edit: see also here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Displa ... e_settings

ohh! good Fred, thank goodness you're here! I was afraid of no response.
Even though I searched, I couldn't find anything online.
I'll try to change the screensaver time and then I'll let you know.
hugs Fred,
sonia
P.S. Fred I'll change it to root dir - I hope I understand correctly. Now I'll try.
thanks sonia

Always at your service if I possibly have some useful answer :D

Not sure what you mean by 'change it to root dir' ? Anyway, if you're logged in as root, the file to edit is /root/.xsession (same then as ~/.xsession).
(or, an executable script in /root/Startup that contains the command will also work though).
