Barry, consider a succession plan for the EasyOS project. I'm sure there are people who would be eager to take over if you want to, or ever have to, stop working on the project either partially or totally, for whatever reason(s).

It would suck for the many happy and daily EasyOS users if the project just ended! Also it's too GOOD to end! There's nothing else like it out there.

That is correct. Our medium language of instruction here in both private and public schools is English from pre-school up to college. Nowadays, most of our 4-yr old kids can fluently speak using the English language because of the internet and celfones.

Certainly I find that the educated and younger locals speak a fair amount of English, but a lot of the ones I know, understand somewhat but not great at speaking it. I'm talking about the 30 and 40 year olds who are general workers such as in construction or trike drivers. Restaurant workers usually pretty good, but depends what the conversation is about (good about food and tourism matters). Many even younger ones I know have had little to no access to computers at their colleges. They all glued to smartphones though - more than I've ever seen elsewhere.

Many even younger ones I know have had little to no access to computers at their colleges. They all glued to smartphones though - more than I've ever seen elsewhere.

Our educational system before was 6 yrs. in elementary and 4 yrs. in high school. Last 2012, the govt. changed it to 7 years(adding 1 year kindergarten) and 6 years (adding 2 years senior high).

Regarding access to computers, only last 2010 poor kids started playing online gaming like "counter-strike" and DOTA in the internet cafes for less than a 1$/hr. Now, its only 5 peso/hr.
During COVID-19, e-learning was introduced to continue the schooling using internet cafes nearby.

If you take a ride in the PUVs today, you can find all passengers hooked-up to their smartphones.

Dear Barry,
I updated to v 6.4.4 and I confirm that there was no need of doing anything. KDE Dolphin still workiing perfectly (and also with extraordinary speed)! This basically means something great: in my opinion, EasyOS Daedalus is now the best Linux distribution in existence, which can also be considered as the best open source OS in existence, since it is the lightest and easyest Linux distribution which also offers a good integration of the KDE apps (without even the need of using the KDE window manager). By now everyone will be able to use Dolphin (which is basically the best file manager on the planet), and Okular (which is basically the best PDF program for Linux) without the need of installing any heavy or difficult to use Linux distribution. No need of K-Ubuntu, MX-Linux or Debian: just install EasyOS Daedalus, open PKGget, install Dolphin and Okular and you are ready to go! And it even runs wonderfully on USB sticks!

There are also other amazing details: for example now the system remembers the last setting for the screen brightness, eliminating the need of clicking on the applet on the system tray everytime the system boots. The new version is really amazing! Unmatched!! This is more or less exactly what I've been always dreaming about! And, in my opinion, something which will last for ever (or at least for a long time).

I didn't test everything thoroughly jet, but I can already confirm that also on EasyOS Scarthgap the system update does not compromise the working of KDE Dolphin in any way. And also on Scarthgap the brightness applet works now automatically!

I think that the time has come to write new reviews for EasyOS on DistroWatch. And I think that we are going to gain many positions on the ranking (we have already gained one). To be honest at this point I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be at the first position by now. And I also think that this could really become a very popular OS in general, not just considering the Linux branch.

The correct word is revolutionary. This release of Easy Daedalus is revolutionary!
Unfortunately, there's still no trace of it on DistroWatch. I don't know if someone is entitled to update the data on DistroWatch or if these data is actually only maintained by the owner(s) of the website, but at the moment I think that it wouldn't make sense to add a review for a version which does not even appear on the website at all jet.

If EasyOS has had an average rating of 8.9 out of 10 till now, if we add to the equation the vastity of the new repository, the ease with which it is possible to install the KDE apps and more importantly the very nice way they have been integrated, I'm quite confident that we are going to get easily a 10 out of 10.

I run Daedalus 6.4.4 from a USB stick. I prefer it over the Scarthgap, because of the great selection of Devuan program packages.
I have used the package Xpad for ages, since it was first available in a Puppy. It is a yellow pad for quick notes. It can be used from the menu, but is commonly set to be launched from the tray. The version found in the Devuan repo has again crashed my EasyOS. I can unfortunately not describe what goes wrong, but it does something with the save function. Despite saving a session, with a working Xpad launched from the tray, it does not appear in the tray after rebooting. The Easy Daedalus 6.4.4 finally collapsed, and when trying to boot an earlier session, it found none, and it instead booted to the prestine session. All my downloaded programs and settings were gone, but that is not a big problem. I have had some similar situations with Xpad before, with both EasyPup and EasyOS, so this is a general warning to take care, and do a backup first, if you plan to use Xpad.

Hi Barry.
I installed a selection of Easy and Puppy to my old Dell Latitude 6400 laptop. I don't know it's age, but the A27 bios is from 2010. I installed Easy Deadalus 6.5, Easy Scarthgap 6.5, BookwormPup64 10.0.8, an old EasyPup 2.5.1, and an even older remastered TahrPup64 6.0.6. They were installed frugal with limine. They all work as intended, no problems at all. I could have run Daedalus in a container in Scarthgap, but I have installed some large graphic programs in Daedalus, to process RAW photo images. RAW files can be up to 50Mb in size, and I simply don't have enough RAM to run them all in a container.
For those interested in post processing of photo images, the very best of Linux non-destructive post processing tools for RAW files, are present in the Daedalus repo. In addition to Gimp, you'll find RawTherapee and Darktable. I installed them to be run as root. They can both be set to work as Gimp plugins, so the developed RAW images can automatically open in Gimp for final adjustments. RAW images are uncompressed, lossless files that describe the image, they cannot be viewed as pictures (or hacked). The original RAW files are not destroyed or modified during processing. Most camera manufacturers have their own RAW systems, for each specific camera model. My RAW files are .orf format for Olympus E-M1X camera, set to save pics as both RAW and .jpg. RAW just means raw. The latest RawTherapee 5.11, released late in August, is available as an Appimage at their homepage. I did a short test of it in Deadalus, and it seemingly worked as intended.

BTW, the Daedalus System menu tool iotop, to monitor I/O activity, does not load from the menu, but iotop-py opens in a terminal window.
The same with gftp, it does not open from the menu, and in a terminal window it still gives the same message as posted earlier; no gftprc file found

I'd hate to think I'd have to go back to using a normal Linux distro again.

I also understand retiring and wanting to enjoy life and touring around on the E-Trike project that Barry K has been working on.

The interesting point will be when I setup my new (just arrived) Yoga Book 9I which has dual 3k graphics screens. Weather it works with either Daedalus or Scarthgap 6.5, while providing independance for the two attached screens and two usbc 4k graphics screens as it does work under windows 11 will be the next test.
If so I will be able to get rid of a number of workstation screens and terminals from my workstation desk, as I will be able to run 4 3k/4k screens with graphics capabilities. Running 2 normally (portable) 3k graphics and 2 4k graphics art screens via one external usb-c hub when wanted.
Hopefully I will be able to use a container for each still.

I posted a review of EasyOS Daedalus 6.5 on Distrowatch but it hasn't been published jet. We have gained 5 positions on the ranking in a short time, but I honestly can't believe that there's still so many above us. Daedalus is probably not well known to the masses jet. I wonder how exactly that ranking is calculated.
If you select "Trending past 6 months" we are already at the third place.

if you look at "Last 7 days" ranking, EasyOS is at number 10.

That has happened before, and it has sunk back to about number 25, where it stays until the next release is announced.

Maybe a lot of people click on the link when they see a new release, but don't go any further.

But this time our new release is incredible and adds several extremely important and useful features. Why do people orbit more around other distributions? Maybe because they do not work as expected and there is more to do to learn / fix them (it must be so that some distributions comes preinstalled on some models of PCs and / or servers, and that must be the real reason)?

A ranking based on the amount of clicks does not make much sense to me. The correct ranking should be simply based on the amount of installations. Anyway, if we don't have other means to advertise EasyOS Daedalus, let's write reviews of it. More we cannot do.

By the way, I should also update the QEmu guides for Daedalus. It looks like the installation is different because it uses Devuan packages. It also looks like AQEmu works perfectly. I will update the guides as soon as possible.

I installed QEmu by installing the packages:

- qemu-system-x86_7.2
- qemu-system-gui_7.2
- qemu-system-data_7.2
- qemu-system-common_7.2

several dependencies got automatically installed, among which libvirglrenderer1_0.10.4-1. The system is now unfortunately totally muted: no audio volume applet appears on the system tray (but QEmu works).

There are still some fixes to be done here and there.
