Added power management function (energy saving, balanced, productive)

I can't add this to Void-linux because there are some missing packages for this. I'll try to compile it, of course, but I doubt that anything will come of it, because VOID is sleeping in a clamp on gcc-13  :ugeek:

I LIKE what you have added to the package manager with "tealdeer". I tried it instead of 'tldr' and it is EVEN FASTER by a lot! Please consider adding one or the other as you go forward.

To use tealdeer, DO NOT INSTALL TLDR. Once tealdeer is installed, it is invoked by typing 'tldr' in the terminal for help with any Linux commands.

But, I could not find 'hardinfo' or the improved 'hardinfo2'.

REQUESTS

Code: Select all

/home/spot/.bin:/home/spot/.local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/bin/site_perl:/usr/bin/vendor_perl:/usr/bin/core_perl
 spot@archlinux  ~ 
  • Where do you recommend a user store a local script one writes/tests?

  • Which log file contains the boot-menu stanza used to boot to the current desktop?

@Sofiya THANKS for such a well designed distro!

It is almost too perfect by comparisons. Perfectly a fitting distro coming from this forum in tools, layout and its design.

It is at home on old or new PCs that members have. Runs fast, stable, feature-rich, simple to use and simple to expand. This moves the needle of what we now see as a truly modern 2025 desktop that any/every Windows or MAC user would fall in love with.

It is much much more than being new & shiny! It is, most importantly, immediately useful as it supports all the older PUP forum things we know, yet it brings other OOTB uses that doesn't require running around to make actionable or functional.

Hope others have an opportunity to take a gander at this magnificence.

NOT a complaint or a bug; but could the default time-out for shutdown-reboot be extended by another 20-30 second, OOTB? While reviewing the screen and keys, it timed-out...so I lost all my day's testing. It is my problem, I know, but I think there may be benefit ... if this is a simple OOTB build change.

I asked for a recommendation couple of post above, because this is NOT in the system path. If there is a recommendation beyond changing the OOTB PATH, I would welcome the recommendation.

Of course, I could be looking at this while overlooking something obvious.

Not sure if it's the system path. But folders will appear on the Left (tree?) panel if:
(a) Left-pressed and dragged there; and
(b) Right-Clicked >add to Places,

There are 2 directories: ( /home/spot/bin : /home/spot/.local/bin ) which are included in the $PATH. One of those I would think meet your requirements.

Enabled the AUR via the KDE Store via 'pancake'>Preferences>Third Party(tab). Not sure if this is a good thing as its default is turned off. Maybe should be turned off after use???

BUT, I found and installed Hardinfo2.

I was curious which the devs would want us to use for the KDE distros. I could make a choice, but I wanted to follow what they would envision for their architectures.

That's why I asked the question, then attempted to clarify it.

Disabling the indexer baloo will reduce the memory load

The indexer will be disabled on next login.

Code: Select all

balooctl6 suspend
balooctl6 disable

disable completely:

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl --user disable --now kde-baloo.service

This just happened: REbooted, walked away for 20min. Back and found this instead of the sleep screen.

Anyone ever seen this? Could this be a breach or viral problem? Or a problem I incurred by enabling the AUR via the KDE Store.

Or maybe the Falcon browser locker???

Any ideas anyone!

Edit: Research suggest something occurred in upgrade. I suspect this 'may' have something to do with my enabling the AUR. I only needed it enabled to get "Hardinfo2"

Request
Hardinfo2 - how can we install (without AUR) until it shows up in this KLA respository?

Thanks @Sofiya

Is this @ETP's PET adapted for KLA? It is a VERY nice addition and I have used it in ALL of the PUPs used since the PET was provided. Glad you are providing one is in this distro.

Also, I see KDE Gears in now out. Maybe a seasonal gift to the ever increasing KDE community.

SWEET!

Damn, I was probably a bit hasty in updating. A big app update just arrived (12/24/0-1) :ugeek:

Well, nothing, update yourself. As always, I forget to pack something because I keep everything in my head - I forgot to pack my favorite radio (YRadio)

Oh no! Yes that needs to be in...I use it every day to listen to WPKN from Bridgeport Connecticut, Best radio station in the USA.

YRadio is a favorite and no system should be without it.

The "PKN" stands for "Purple Knights".....this radio station used to belong to the University of Bridgeport who are the Purple Knights.......

@Sofiya and KLA Members

Each of us KNOW that the work done by Sofiya on ARCH where KDE is dropped on its Wayland implementation such that we have a stable fast clean User Desktop that addresses pretty much everything a user has/needs/wants.

The beauty of it is the performance and how Sofiya shows a simple clean approach to its distro packaging development.

If you are reading this and have not tried it out on your own, you are doing yourself a disservice. Its beautiful while also embracing all the modern features all of the other DEs are desperately trying their best to catch and achieve..so far without any reasonable successes that a normal user can use with the 2024 changes that have become stable in the Linux world from the drivers to the kernel implementations.

OK, enough of my current findings, HERE IS THE GEM!

To me, it seems that some one(s) in the KDE development groups have been watching @Sofiya's work here using ARCH.

Look for yourself as the Linux world is about to see a new distro that will put KUbuntu and other KDE distros on the back burner. @Sofiya, YOU ARE AHEAD OF YOUR TIME!

Members, see this and you'll see almost the KL ARCH approach by Sofiya copied:

In tests, I find NO operational issues.

I think in your next version, GRUB2.12 might be appropriate for 2025. And I wonder if the kernel and boot parms could be upgraded to accomodate the 2024 nvidia driver(s). @rockedge and/or @fredx181 may already know of simple manner to have nvidia via the kernel and/or boot parm(s).

ALL is well!
